Having met Michael once, I second all that. But the thing that gets 400 BBC staff there is that it is a truly world status event. That it is quintessentially British as well is delightfull. For once licence payers money exceedingly well spent! Pity they've got to spend so much on football....

Hear, hear!

And, I've just remembered, they'll be sending people from Radio 1 and from 6 Music (possibly from Radio 2, and maybe even the odd person from Radio 4).

Remember when the GPO used to be at the forefront a telecoms technology, R&D 2nd to none, world class. Then we got BT and it all went out of the window.

Same applies to the BBC, because they've got a bit a scope they can do some really good work, take the money away and sky would eat them up in 5 minutes and that would be the end to original programming.

OH, and I'd happily of paid my licence last year purely to see their coverage of Springsteen at Glastonbury, Supperb.

Indeed. How are you doing, Richard? Sorry to hear your bad news... what's happening with your car/cars? I know you've been mucking about with (sorry, coachbuilding!) 2-door P6s for a while, but I've never really been much aware of what you've been doing...

If no-one shares my views about the BBC , at least put them all on sensible money and scrap the gravy train

Which would then see all the people they need depart for the private sector and the Beeb would collapse altogether. Terrible idea.

Still sat in a hospital bed with anti-biotics on drip, but recovering well, and finally getting my faculties back enough to get online.
Hopefully I'll be going home in a week or so for a few days, then I come back and do it all again ! At least next time I'll be ok when I start, not suffering several different infections, so it should be a bit easier.

In terms of cars, the P6 hasn't seen much work for a while, and with me out of action for probably the rest of the year, it's not going to see much any time soon. But it's sat in a nice dry garage so it's going nowhere, and hopefully I'll have more time at home rather than working 6 days a week once I'm fixed, so I can get back on it.

No , because there won't be jobs for them in the private sector !!
It's a bit like BA cabin crew , they know they've had it good for years but those days are numbered .If BA get rid of them ,they won't get anywhere near as good terms and conditions elsewhere

Anyhow on a more important topic , get well soon Richard and maybe you need to adjust the work/life balance a bit ?

Bollocks. Speaking as the son of a former airline operations manager, I can tell you that BA treats their cabin staff like shit - the other airlines are much better. As for the Beeb? Haven't you just seen Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley or whatever her name is defect to ITV?

Thanks Dave, that's certainly the plan for the future (hopefully the insurance policies are going to help), I also think this has given a few of my family a bit of wake up call and if nothing else they may realise that there's a lot more to life than paying the bills and having that new Audi.....

It's about time most of us took a step back and took time to breath. Nobody laid on their death bed wishing they spent more time in the office !

...and who exactly was helping out at work via the laptop and mobile telephone from his Hospital Bed the other day?

Hey, Hey, Chaps! Less of the personal please! Politics and how to run the world is a notorious subject for debate turning to heated argument. I think it's just interesting to see the range of opinions of everybody else! We certainly shouldn't expect to agree with them, much less expect to be "proved" right!

One of the things I learnt over the years is that there are a thousand ways to manage or solve any given problem. At least 75% of them are more or less equally valid! The one to adopt is therefore the one to which most people involved are personally committed, irrespective of whether it coincides with your own view of the "right" way.

Why cant folk have adult conversations these days without swearing and insulting people? :?
'That' is a sign of the times IMO
I hope it doesn't become too regular on here

Same if you want a little toast up at the lights.

In the old days you could leave some rubber on the road, leave the Ford Crapi at the lights and go on your way with a friendly wave. 8)

These days if you beat anyone they will try to kill you, then the police will book you in your hospital bed. :?

That's why I don't even bother trying. Most boy racers in their blinged up Corsas and Saxos take one look at the V8 and start revving like mad. I just calmly pull away, safe in the knowledge that I haven't left a few thousand miles worth of rubber on the road, while they scream off into the distance :D

I used to dash about and try to beat the next car etc when I drove a modern car. Driving the P6 has made me realise how enjoyable driving is again, and the utter pointlessness of rushing everywhere 8) .....and relax

quite. It's a waste of fuel, and rubber...

Eccentric Richard thinks I'm talking
Bollocks.
- that's what I took exception to
And I recall E R being rude to Chris York about XJ6 suspension

There's room for eccentricity here but not rudeness
