Having just started this car the oil pressure light comes on as the revs go up
as it drops to tick over the light goes out
also the gauge doesn’t show any sign of movement is this a normal fault ??

Sounds like a fault with the oil pressure warning light sender switch. If you have a spare sender I’d try swapping it.

thats an odd one. sounds as though wiring to sensor ( and light) has been swapped around? oil pressure gauge ought to show at least 15 psi min. and higher when revved .when cold expect higher than 15 psi( absolute minimum) anyway. if no pressure showing we may have a faulty gauge but do get it and oil pressure checked as running with no pressure will result in engine damage .

Thanks I’ll check when it’s running again
the power steering pump is leaking so I need to sort that first

Check the wire is actually attached to the sender first, if its come off it could earth out when you rev the engine. Checking the sender is easy and quick; remove the wire check the light is off then earth the wire and see if light comes on.
