r o v e r letters

There are 2 different size of ROVER letters for the boot. S1 cars had smaller letters across the top above the number plate plinth whilst the early S2 cars had larger letters to the left of the plinth.

I can't find any pictures at the moment but I'm sure someone will have some.

They're both Series 1. The reflectors moved to the wings, and the V8's & TC's got the round clock dash on the Series 2's.

Not till the '72 model year Harvey. Early S2's have the same lettering and reflectors as the late S1's.

I don't think so. Even the series 1 & a halfs had the reflectors on the wings and the round clock dashes. They did have the large letters though.

Nope, reflectors don't go to the wings until the plate badges arrive.

Show me a Series 2 with the reflectors on the bootlid, because that one in the pic isn't one. Early series 2's had the large letters and the plate badge as that one has, but with the reflectors on the wings, The one in the pic doesn't have the round clock dash so isn't a series 2, If you could see the door handles they should be series 1 as well.

I've just found my original brochure "The Magnificent Seven For 1971" (How corny!) and it shows all the cars on H and J plates, the very earliest (probably pre-production) Series 2's with the wing mounted reflectors and the boot badges as I described.

Vanessa is a series 1½ 2000TC with the big R O V E R letters on the boot (bottom left), script 2000 (not a plate) and reflectors on the wing directly underneath the rear light unit. She's registered April 1971 and therefore probably built late '70 or very early '71.

She's still wearing the original boot and lettering and reflectors that she was born with.

Hold down the "ALT" key and whilst holding it down press "0", "1", "8", "9" in that order - it's a way of accessing additional symbols in the character set that are not on your keyboard ;)

Harvey - you're quite right about the wing reflectors being an S2 trademark from the start. I don't know what I was thinking last night! I shall claim a bad headache and too much typing yesterday! Sorry!

my rosie a series 2 1971 has rover letters bottom left and reflectors on botom wings, so mines a 1 1/2 then
dont look at the badge on right as i changed it as i like that one better

Hi Marcus,

You could well have a series 1½ too they have a mixture of series 1 and series 2 parts. Vanessa has things such as:

Boot ROVER lettering as we've been discussing - definately no plates
Front seats have the thick squab without the metal plate that pulls the seat in to allow an inertia seatbelt
Lucas "4 fuse" fuse box in the engine bay
A 446.... chassis (Series 2 TC Home Market RHD) but a 415.... engine (series 1 2000 TC 10:1 compression)
Inertia starter motor (not sure if that one counts or not?)

Can't think of anything else at the moment.

well as i suspected mines got wrong badges
ive been delving and i found one "r" badge in sorry condition with my cars old bits,,so im buggered
the rover placque fitted to mine looks mint compared to the rest of my plaques so i take it the rover plaque was a new old stock item to replace the missing or poor R O V E R LETTERSET
