Rover 2000sc

Well the speculative nature of the discussion and the fact I'm based in Switzerland means I'm not too concerned. If the board mods are unhappy they can of course pull any post. If the person concerned is innocent I naturally retract anything he/she might consider offensive and apologize without reservation, that's not a legal thing it's not wanting to cast anyone who would want to keep a P6 on the road in a bad light nor to put our kind hosts at any risk.

You are right in saying engine, panel and interior transplants are not uncommon. But all 3 on a car of this value? That's more work than most people would want to undertake.

Her/his best action would probably be to sell it through this community and explain the work he/she did anyway. £2600 ought to get you an SC without these questions anyway.

Anyway enough on this topic from me.

Peter ZRH : what makes you think that being in Switzerland gives you protection ? UK has become the libel capital of the world, and service outside the jurisdiction is no problem at all

You are right but I'm not concerned as no one has actually been accused of anything. Firstly the fact of this being a ringer or not is not established. Secondly at no point has the vendor or any other identifiable party been accused of perpetrating this hypothetical act.

The act of doing this is factually "definitely illegal" and not merely "very naughty".

I think the only thing that has been changed is the steering wheel.....and of course number plates.
The small AA sticker is still in bottom r/h corner of rear screen !
The only puzzle to me is who could be bothered to go through the hassle / risk to save the cost of a tax disc ?

They probably felt that the car was more desirable if road tax free...
The problem is, this may not have anything to do with the current seller....

I doubt anything will come of it... great bit of detective work though
I had never heard the term "Ringer" until the past couple of years, but I am guessing this has been done alot. In 2002 I had a 3500 auto, M reg and was offered out of the blue, by a repairer (to remain nameless) if I wanted to make it road tax free. The offer was to replace the chassis number/plates/V5 with I presume a scrap car.... I declined as I didn't see the point, I was after an earlier twin carb 4 pot anyway and I didn't think anything more of it.

The irony is as this being a 2200, which survives in much smaller numbers and is generally a better car (build quality aside), in a couple years time when the tax thing becomes a non-issue this will likely LOWER the value of the car.

Regardless it would be a terrible shame to see it crushed for really no reason.

To be fair it is possible the current seller is unaware of the 'differences' his car has to supposed year of manufacture if he bought it 'as is'.
