Stunning S1 2000...

A lovely machine. It will be a lot of money, & for a car that you can't really 'use', except for showing. It's only really unique if the mileage is kept fairly static, even if the condition is fastidiously maintained which I don't think would be possible once it started having a life on the road. I doubt it will though.
I'm glad it exists but even if I had the available money & space, it wouldn't be a car for me. I'll enjoy looking over it when it appears at a show though, very interesting.

I do admire Rose Taupe on the Austin A55's (especially in a two-tone scheme) but this version isn't such a pretty colour. It looks to have more brown in it.

Just enlarged the pictures.......stunning! The colour looks better too (though still prefer the BMC version).

Is there anything more pants, however, than shiny tyres? For gawd'sakes, boot polish them, then brushing off for the satin look or leaving them matt is optional.

Indeed, tyres just nice and clean is enough, but polished? :?
Also i would like to see the exhaust tailpipe bevel cut as it should be. Everything else looks so wrong in a P6 IMHO.

However, overall it's the closest match you can find this side of a period broshure.

I've heard of the Doctor on different forums he buys them up and then doubles the price.
Also was just brave enough to click on description and as expected too much to read

Well, if it did sell for £4K, then that was a real coup (de grâce) & that just goes to show you what an inadequate description can do for the price of your car. I think the previous owner/vendor did himself absolutely no favours & undervalued the car by a pretty hefty margin, which is surprising if he'd owned the car for fourteen years. I would have thought he'd have had a bit more of a handle on the value of a car like this.

How would it have gone?

"Well, it's only an auto SC & they can't even pull their own socks off, can they? No-one really wants them, they all want TC's & V8's. No, I really don't think the price you're asking is realistic. Look, it's not even a popular colour, let's face it, you never see it, do you? Lucky for you though, I'm a bit quirky with my cars & do like these underdogs so I'll tell you what I'll do.......etc etc"

It's possible, don't you think?

Apparently there's a four-figure reserve on it. Up to £4,600 at present. That'll pay for the valeting process.

Wow. What do we reckon then £8-10k?

He will be looking for far more than that.

Well, there's yer askin' and there's yer gettin'....

TBH, this exceptional car belongs in a museum. There are plenty of S1 P6s tucked away and if it was my £10k+ I'd prefer to secure the future of another solid example at around £2.5-3k which I wouldn't be afraid to drive and that I'd be comfortable doing some slight mods to make it more practical to use today and more durable/rust proof.

I don't think as a usable motor I could stand to watch this deteriorate to "just another old Rover". A friend of mine once bought his dream Porsche 911 and then sold it 9 months later because there simply was no joy in being frightened to drive or leave it anywhere.

What you missed, is that this car sold for £4000 last week on car and classic http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C511522 8)

LOL nothing like some great pictures and a good story to double your money - It is of course a lovely car.

And what a story; I skimmed through the verbiage once and was amused initially but then irritated by his prolix rambling.
So I went back to the beginning and read it through, word by word. It took 21 minutes!
I know I'm an idiot to have wasted so much time reading about a car I never want to own (I have always disliked Rose Taupe) but this seller is a pain.
In concision lies precision!

This car is beautiful but it is also pretty much un-usable (to me anyway) as it is just TOO good, that perfection just cannot be tainted...!

The fun to be had with these cars is with the ones we can use without soiling ourselves every time someone drives too close or when we have to leave it in a car park! There would be no fun in owning this car and I think that is what makes it both amazing and sad in equal measure...

As already mentioned this is one for preservation somewhere very special as it truly is perfect and perfection is not easy to come by. I'd think it would be a perfect candidate for a place in the Gaydon collection or such like?!

Anyhow, I hope what I've said doesn't make you think I'm a bit of a tool?! I love this car but I just think it's somewhat of a pointless purchase in terms of something to use to the full and enjoy all the time...

With regards to 'The Doctor', he sure knows how to nab 'em...!!!!!!!
