Temp sender

Is it possible to wire in a variable resistor so if you know the temperature is OK , you can twiddle the knob to set the pointer where you want it ?

You'd probably need something a little more sophisticated. An op amp and a variable resistor maybe.

I'd just like to know where other people have bought them from and do theirs give the correct reading . I really don't want to set about modifying a part that should be available for under 20 quid . I asked waddams as well today and they couldn't tell me if theirs were P6 specific , or who they were manufactured by  Running out of ideas now :(

The NOS sender that I have is inside a sealed Land Rover bag, so you would have to assume that it is indeed the correct item for the P6B engine. I have replaced the original sender in my Rover's manifold just once, the genuine replacement came in a sealed Land Rover bag.

Best bet Stina is to buy the genuine Land Rover item. Out of curiousity, the one that you purchased from Mark Gray, was contained within some sort of packaging?

Ron.

Although mine's a 4 cyl, a few years ago i bought the correct sender for my car from Ian.
Since Ian's stock was bought by Wins, you could try them as well.

I had a look at the NOS item that I have amongst my bit and pieces Stina, the part number agrees with that shown in the P6B parts book. The part number is 568055. I also did a quick search and found them here...

I think Ron's on the money here - the one at the bottom. I got my last one from Ian at rover classics but that was a long time ago, and as i cant get my gauge to behave I've never been able to verify it.

Hi Ron , i have tried to remember the packaging , but can't , at the time i just thought i,d fit it and that'd be it , certainly wasn't landrover packaging though , i'd remember that . It looks like the britpart items i've seen since i've been hunting for the right one .
I looked at that land rover site again , but couldn't find a contact number for them , i'd of liked to talk to someone before ordering online ( never keen on that ) I might talk to Geoff at wins again , or try to find a local land rover dealer .

The one at the bottom Rich , i looked at that this afternoon and got quite up beat about it , seeing the price compared to the others i thought it must be the original part ,indeed looking again it even says it's a land rover part . Now look next to it and below at availability , they are using for identification only i think :?

Hi Stina,

The attached link shows both the genuine Land Rover and a Britpart item. It also says...."Product Description: V8 Twin carb models, water coolant temperature sender"

http://www.lrseries.com/shop/product/li ... ENDER.html

Their phone number is 01430 871590. They are in York, so you could give them a buzz before ordering.

Ron.

Oh , well spotted Ron , That's another one i was looking at , didn't see the contact details , I'll be onto them tomorrow :D

Right'o today i looked up my local land rover dealer , then i realised i knew exactly where they were any way , but as i'll never be in the market for a new range rover it never registered
Any hoo , the young yoof in there got on his key board and looked up the part number for me and up came temp sender , £12.30 including VAT , it'll be in tomorrow , so we'll see if that sorts it out :?
Obviously it's a genuine land rover part so if that doesn't sort it then i don't know what will :D

Right then . This should be the correct one now .Correct part number and genuine landy part . I'll report back tomorrow , didn't have time tonight :D

Right'o .
Fitted the sender , left her ticking over while i did some other tinkering . It runs up to and above the 85 until the stat opens , then it comes down and sits between the 8 and the 5 just as it did with the original sender , so a result :D
So , if you want a gauge that reads correct as oppose to showing a random reading , get down to your Land Rover dealer with the original part number  :D
