Does anyone know what happened to Peter Sutcliffe's Brown Rover P6 V8? It had the vrm 'FHY400K'.

I wonder if its still on the road, or was destryed as part of the enquiry?
 
These cars that might have been involved in murders with lots of forensics are as a genral rule practically torn to bits by the police in search for the last scrap of evidence. Then after being kept at the police yard or the local secure compound, they are scrapped and crushed at a relaible scrapyard, to keep the ghouls from buying them and cashing in on peoples misey. They often have to be kept for years though, due to the appeals process and depending on whether or not they plead guilty or not. The guys at the compound keep them well tucked away and wrapped up usually in a locked garage in case any more evidence is needed. The compund guys know when theyre on to a good thing, they make a fortune from there police contracts, so they make sure no funny business goes on with people poking round the vehicle. These days its genrally 24 hour camera security as well, straight to a server via WiFi.

This relates to cars these days, im sure back in the seventies it was once over with a swab stick for blood, a few Polaroids, then fingerprinted, then that was it.
 
I was guessing it would have been scrapped, who would want it (infact, probably plenty of people!)

I know the enquiry was a total balls up and forensic science wasn't what it was then. Oh well, thought i'd ask anyway.
 
Now I always remembered a P6 connection with the Ripper case (pictures in the paper & on TV) but when I was watching a program a few years ago they said the Police traced some tyre tracks back to his car & he drove a Ford Pubic so he must have changed cars during his reign of terror
 
never mind the rippers p6 what i want to know is what happend to the "gaffers" p6 i remember watching this as a young boy in the 70,s i think it was an almond yellow v8 with black roof but i could be wrong

Fred Moffat? or was it Selwin Froggitt? I thought it was a white 2000.

I know the back seat was always full of parking tickets where he would take them off the windscreen and just throw them behind him.
 
Ah yes the Gaffer's P6 I remember it as a scruffy white 2000/2200 with a rear wheel trim missing & yes he was called Fred Moffat, there's nothing on You tube & when I've looked at other sites about the programme there is no mention not even a picture of the car. I remember when I got my first P6 hearing people singing "He's the Gaffer" :roll: when I drove by with the window open.

I have hopefully (fingers crossed) found a source for the rare TV series on dvd (copied from an old vhs no doubt). So i will hopefully be able to put up a few screen grabs before too long.
