That's different!

Almost looks too professional to be amateur if you see what I mean. Includes some standard unique to Rover warning lamps which implies that it is either factory or done by a Rover-head. Could it be something to do with Police accessories?

its a one owner from new 68 i think 2000tc
an early heads up display?
only kidding!
Stina didn't know about it either but just wanted it!
its not some sort of starter system for another power source cos the engine doesn't work!

Here is a slightly more 'viewable' image of the special console...

I'd love to be able to find out what it's for and whether it is factory done or home-grown...!!! I wonder if the plug/socket part is for an electric razor for the executive on the move...? Are the switches for electric windows, extra cooling fans, extra driving lamps or for hidden machine guns...?!?!?! It'd be great to find out more...

Looks like a home built jobbie to me. The switches are kind of period but not really Rover. Is it your car? Try hooking up a battery and see what happens. Does the car have any other features that shouldn't be there? Electric windows? Spot lights? Ejector seat? You could try following the wiring and see where it goes. Not an ex-cop car or taxi is it?

i have charged its battery and i think its knacked a well but if i get time i'll have a play later
its a one owner car from very near me and i only bought it to save it basically
it should be a breaker but i'm rather soft and dream too much.
been putting a 5 speeder in another today, well, my mechanic has!
i just do the donkey work which oddly i don't mind.
i've has the car sgn 830f for about 7 weeks and only opened its doors twice!
7 others to be looked at too but i do have one roadworthy now!
can't use it though until the log book arrives for its been off road for 28 years and wasn't historic tax!
so as soon as dvla get their act in gear i'll be breaking down all over the place again!

i did attach a battery and a green light and an orange light come on when you flick the switches
nothing actually happens but i am such a child that i'm happy with the lights coming on!

It looks really manky! some thing even I would not put my hand up for to claim as my own work  but that doesn't stop me from wanting one too  Please .... it doesn't have to do any thing.

hmm.. this may sound silly, but I feel that perhaps I could have some coloured lights connected up to some switches. I remember my old Monza car had a blue one, connected up to a rocker switch in the little cubby hole above the radio. It was a manual switch for the kenlowe, but I remember it for the colour :D

I seem to remember back in the 70s a car mag (Street Machine or similar) did an article on making an overhead console like that one.

it is manky but then it matches the car!
it'll clean which is more than the car will!
as it has an orange and green light , i don't suppose its some sort of remote traffic light changer?
probably the only remote thing is the idea.
just deciding what to do with it now??

Personally I'd tidy it up, power it up, put some better quality switches in & turn the lights on at night while I decided what accessories to actually wire up to the switches.

Is that a socket or a knob on the bottom surface? I wondered if it's some sort of control for bi-aural speakers?

It's a period aftermarket power socket (though you could use it as a speaker connection I suppose), I have a couple lying around somewhere.

well, i had my mechanic man round last night to ready the 5 speed conversion on another p6 and so i showed him pandora's box on the manky tc
he;s done things like a 4x4 anglia and has finished making an aircraft simulator out of a smart car which is in his garage now which impressed me!
and after looking at the box and studying it he declared he hadn't a clue !
hmmmm!
