Timing gear? YOu have a choice between the factory one which has a nylon gear and I'd go to a Rover engine specialist and get an all metal Cloyes set.
The all metal set will last longer but give you slightly more noise. And by longer the Rove type can get sloppy at 50k miles.
TBH it's fairly easy and cheap to change anyway.

Peter:
Cloyes no longer makes a set for the Rover V-8. They have quit making kit 9-3132 (which had a Rover application) and have replaced it with kit 9-1132 (which no longer has an application for this engine). I called Cloyes' technical support. They were unable to provide me with a kit that would work for the 3500 3.5 l.
Yes I have that exact kit and am very happy with it. I believe they are the same for all variants of the engine including the iron block 300/340/350 and V6 whether they list it or not. I mean even the timing cover of some of these engines fits the Rover engine.
You have the Cloyes 9-1132 or the original 9-3132? If you have the 9-1132 that's what I will order. Cloyes couldn't tell me whether they just dropped the application for Rover engines when they switched to this kit, or, if the kit was significantly different from the 9-3132 and would not fit the Rover 3.5
Thanks for your help.
I'll check that out. Thank you.I got a kit from Real Steel last year which l believe is a Cloyes. Not fitted yet but should be very soon.
Thank you for the information. I'll check them out.I got a set from V8 Developments, along with the head work they did and a cam. It did seem to be of a high quality if a little tight to fit. It was made by JP performance in Australia.
Thay may be the way for me to go. Is there an important difference between a regular and roller set? I’m not a mechanic.?Curious. I just bought (arrived yesterday) a Cloyes set, marked as "Rover v8 std timing set", numbered 3003K. Its all metal, but its not a roller set, based on the teeth its a Morse chain. A$66 + postage.
My std looks like a Morse type chain, based on the teeth profile, no rollers. The roller type has teeth that look bicycle gears, and the Cloyes roller types come with 3 keyways on the crank gear, so you can adjust out some stretching later. Considering I wont be doing lots of miles in mine the std set should see me out.
