Hi all

I'm looking for a tow bar if anyone has one before I fork out £140 for a new one.

Also after any good steers on where people get their consumable items from ie oil, filters, bulbs, fuses, grease, etc

cheers

Dave

i have a tow bar for a P6 whihc came with the car but i dont use, the previous owner had wanted it for towing a caravan, its on ebay at the moment but could agree outwith ebay for a price

thanks

I use Halfords for oil (20w 50 classic) and fuses as they are the correct length (about 32mm). I am sure they do bulbs n stuff too, just not needed them yet.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm slightly confused about the whole tow bar thing on my car just now because it has (or rather had) the wiring for a tow bar fitted. I removed it all when I was fault-finding another lighting issue. It also has what looks like parts of a tow bar fitted. I will take some pics and post them when I get a chance, but the car is 400 miles away as I've just moved back up to Scotland. I should,ve got someone to look at it when we were at Twycross but hey......

I'll keep you updated on my findings

cheers

I'm in the Borders about 20 miles south of Edinburgh. Do you go to a regular meet and if so when and where?

Dave

i only got my p6 end of last week so not sure about anything to do with club yet, sorry

there is a classic show on in lathalmond on sunday for all cars

I've only had my P6 for just over a month so I guess we're both in the same boat. I think there's a regular meet in Ratho but I've yet to confirm this. I'll let you know when I find out.

Dave

You are right there is a meeting in Ratho, The details are on the main website.

You probably met some of the Regulars at the SARR Trevor and George, good bunch of guys.

As promised, here are some pics of the back end of my car where I think there has been a tow bar fitted but the bolts look like they've been cut off....

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Dave

certainly does look like thats where the bar would go and the holes in the bar itself look about correct distance,
but for them to be cut it doesnt look like its a clean flat edge for it to be cut, must have been some time ago for it to have rusted like that

You will probably find that it was remove by some one who didn't know how the tow bar was fitted or that the Rectangular block (which is also a jacking point) is going crusty and they didn't risk whacking them with a hammer.

What you have is part of the original Rover Tow bar. You can see the copy of the parts catalogue which shows how it fits together. The bit you cant see fits to where your bolts have been cut.

i have a few tow bars kicking around the garage!
along with lots of stuff i've never seen (as in don't know what it is!) and never seen (as in just unearthed it!)

I bought a neat looking towbar a few weeks ago off ebay. I only got round to offering it up today. Doesn't fit with the overriders fitted :(
Is there bar that fits with overriders? If not how can I mod it - it weighs a bloody ton now - I don't fancy the prospect of having two more 3 ft long rails bolted to the floor!

I really need a trailer / extra load space - I'm half thinking of selling the Rover now and buying a nice old HILUX!!!

The overriders will fit if you slide them out towards the ends of the bumper, where the bumper iron is. They don't look too bad once you get used to it, but AFAIK there aren't any types of towbar that allow them to remain in the normal position.

I've noticed that there are two types of tow bar for the P6 - either straight or kinked. Most seem to be straight, and as you've noticed, unless you put the overriders on the ends, they don't fit.

I bought this towbar off ebay a few months ago and it fits with the overriders like this:

Here it is with the bumper off (while trial fitting it). The angles are symmetrical, it's just the angle that the photo was taken that looks like one is different to the other

I've not seen one like that, it makes you wonder why they weren't all made like it. I'm sure it would have cost a bit more, but worth it I'd say. I suppose (if you got it secondhand) that someone has made the effort to modify an ordinary one.
