Tow bar + electrics

I had a look at the green P6 on ebay - that has the overriders pushed out to allow for the towbar. The bolt heads are well rusted (and now rounded off). If I saw the bolt on the threads will it allow me to take the overrider off and tackle the bolt remains on a bench?

I had to take a blow lamp to mine to get them to move, and then used mole grips to turn them. When I put new bolts in, I smothered them in grease to stop it happening again!

The one I have fitted is like Brians,as was the one I sold, both were originally fitted by the dealer at the time.
My overriders are out a bit further though!

On page one of this thread I had posted a photo of the parts book. the link had an error so I have fixed that. The kinked bar is as per the parts book.

I have one of the aftermarket tow bars like in the photo and a original rover as per the book.

Good point you make there Colin,

I've had a look in my parts book, but mine doesn't have any pictures of the optional extras. But it does list TWO tow bar assemblies.

366772 - Tow bar complete assembly for cars fitted with rear bumper overriders (same part number as in your diagram)
366460 - Tow bar complete assembly for cars NOT fitted with rear bumper overriders (presumably the straight one, likely to be cheaper!)

so there are definitely two Rover spec versions.

Bri.

That probably coincides with the introduction of the overiders then.

I noticed that my picture was unavailable, if you see a photo I have posted that goes like that just drop a PM and I will check it.

Can't get bumper bolts out or overrider bolts loose.
Heat not working - freeze spray not working - cant get grinder anywhere near nuts. Ordered a nut splitter :?

You will find it easiest to undo the bumper irons from the bodywork behind the valence and slide the whole lot out, then you can access all the fixings a lot easier!!

Looked at taking valance off but as it's threaded over the irons anyway I couldn't see there was much to be gained. Apart form that the bumper iron to chassis bolts look just as bad but significantly bigger and harder to shift!
Spent an afternoon and evening lying on the drive nibbling at the bumper nuts with a set of nut splitters. Knackered both tools but got the bleeders off in the end. Got tow bar nailed on nicely now and just waiting for electrics kit and chrome flipper.
Overriders look ok on outside of bumper irons. Would look even better if they hadn't left two stripes of decent chrome on the bumper :?
