Hi guys and gals,

Nice to be here and discovered this site entirely by accident while researching P6's! It's brilliant!

Well, I haven't got my car yet as I've got to sell my everyday car to fund it :D But I'm actively looking for a 3500S, preferably a 5 speed conversion although I'm not bothered as I can do it myself. I'm going to go the custom route with it as I've been active in the classic american cars circles for a number of years and as the P6 has the Buick derived V8 in it,i'm going to bring it bang up to date without compromising the original shape and feel of the design.

So I just thought I'd say hi and log myself in!!

I'll keep you up to date.

Rich

Hi & welcome Rich. Hope you find a 3500S soon. Are you sure you need to customise a P6 - they are already perfect :?: :D
Seriously though, what sort of mod's did you have in mind?

Hi welcome , it's good here :D
If your gonna convert to 5 speed the auto has a bigger tunnel as i understand it . Plus easier to find .

Ps look at me advising with all the hassle i'm having at the moment !

Welcome aboard.

We're not stuffy about modifying our P6's here! Most of us do technical mods, but there are a number that do bodywork as well. We're happy to help with inspiration and constructive criticism! And to applaud the result!

Thank you all for the warm welcome :D it's very kind of you.

With regard to the mods I have a few in mind but the main thing is the colour change to Chevrolet Atomic Orange which is a copper/orange colour; quite fitting for the 70's shape of the P6. I also have a set of wheels lined up but they're very wide and I'm concerned about the width at the rear as I do not want to hack the rear wings about. I have just bought a pair of rear fibreglass wings just in case hacking has to occur but i don't want it.

Also want to take the side chrome strips off and smooth the lines.

I want to remove the overriders and get the bumpers back to a clean set of lines and i wish to move the rear number plate to under the bumper and make the bootlid completely uncluttered.

Eventually I'll get round to modding the engine but at the moment I just want a good one that works!!

With regard to the 5 speed conversion which is easier; getting a 3500s with a manual box and converting it with the auto prop, or getting an auto and putting all the necessary gear in?

I also fancy finding a webasto roof but that search is turning up nothing :( Thats something i really want to add.

Can't think of much else at the moment but I'll keep you posted.

:D

Hi Rich

Atomic Orange - that sounds really cool 8) .

It's much easier to start with a 3500 Auto to fit a 5 spd manual. It is possible in the manual transmission tunnel, but you have a lot more room for error with the auto. Basically concentrate on buying a really solid one - the base unit - the panels are just bolt on - and let the auto manual discussion be dictated by that. If you'd prefer a better auto than the dear old Borg warner slush matic, it is also possible to fit the ZF HP22 as used in the Range Rover and various BMW's and Jag's, but only in an auto tunnel!

I have some bad news on the wide wheels front. The problem with the P6 is not the wings - a good heave in the right place will sort them - but the D post at the rear which is part of the base unit. Any modifications here can rapidly turn quite heroic as you also finish up interfering with the shut lines of the rear door. There is one extremely competent conversion out there. You'll see from the end of this thread that Simon is now making most of his updates on Retro Rides and there's a link to his thread on that site.

There are lots of cars around with Webastos, and people do often have them for sale - you change the complete roof panel, it justs unbolts!

Hooray - another Richard! :D

Wohooooooooooo!!!!

We do need as many Richards as we can get.

I do wonder sometimes why there are so many of us on here

Here's a little inspiration for the custom mods. Mine should eventually look something like this, although probably not this colour.

Now that I like!

Totally as you say - up to date, sleek and modern, but completely true to the original lines. Nice!
