What to check on a points distributor?

Hi gurus, I have a v8 points distributor I'd like to use but I'm not confident it's ok. What should I check and how to see if it's serviceable?

I'm not an expert, but certainly check to see if there's any play in the motion & that the teeth are all present on the bottom gear wheel.

You should also be able to advance the timing (moving the base plate) by sucking on the vacuum module (a little...).

I'm sure others will have more advice.

I would also check the spindle for play, it’s not unheard of for the bushes to wear giving a lot of lateral play causing the cam to move away from the points.

Check that the baseplate returns easily when you twist it against the spring for the bob weights. I’ve had loose springs cause the advance to stay on.

And obviously the condition of the points themselves - not pitted or out of alignment.

Are all the rotors and caps interchangeable between points and electronic dizzies, or are there small differences to watch out for?

Caps, pretty sure YES. Rotors....will have to check tomorrow (have one of each) and advise. Highly likely.

Rotor - P6B is listed as GRA112 or 108. Many different numbers for SD1 rotors. A points type rotor seems to sit too high to allow the cap to seat properly....unclear why at the moment.

Ok thanks. Time to sort through the parts bin!

Sorry this is a bit late but check the skew gear very carefully for cracks - mine looked good but when degreased and thoroughly cleaned a very fine crack from the roll pin hole became just about visible.
