Thanks Clive, I've bought an M45 solenoid and it seems to have done the trick (famous last words), if "click nothing" occurs again then I might be interested in one of your starter motors.
Thanks Vern, what is a bit odd is that the new solenoid has an unattached uninsulated copper strip, which...
Hi all
Chasing down bugs on my Stag with RV8, stranded today when it wouldn't start. Starter solenoid was struck a few times (witness marks from previous striking over the decades), engine started and safely home.
I'll change the solenoid, its markings are:

Thanks Harvey. I've looked at this option, but the collector pipes (down pipes) on my engine go forwards in front of the front crossmember, so there is a possibility of fuel spraying onto the collector pipes. I think I'll have to make a couple of extended runs of flexible pipe and vent any...
Afternoon all,
Having suffered the misfortune of a flooded SU carb due to a float full of fuel, I need to fit flexible pipes to the overflow stubs on the sides of the HIF carbs, I'm trying to avoid venting anywhere near to the exhausts, not that easy in a Stag engine bay. Could someone please...
Thanks for the replies.
Leakage was due to pinhole corrosion and seepage past the edge of the plug. The engine had been resting for a long time with an unknown history.
Dirko seemed to have worked, but I'll keep an eye on it.
(My understanding is that red Hermetite is now Hylotyte Red...
Hi All
Triumph Stag is now running with RV8 power, but there is a leaking core plug behind an engine mount which needs to be replaced.
I'll use a sealant for the new core plug that's high temperature, resistant to anti-freeze and can fill gaps, probably one of these:
Hylotyte Red
Hylomar...
Hi all
P6 engine now running in the Stag, but no pipe between the dizzy and the carbs or inlet manfold. I was expecting to find a spigot on one of the carbs, close to the throttle disc, but it's not there. I understand that the spigot was deleted on later carbs and a tapping taken from the...
Hi all,
The front crankshaft oil seal looks as if it should be replaced, it's the usual material (not rope), is this the same as the generic Rover V8 front crankshaft oil seal fitted to SD1 and Range Rover Classic?
You folks in the US can buy cheap Corvettes and Mustangs :) Shall we swop? 2017 Corvette with the steering wheel on the proper side at less than GBP60k would be in my lock-up tomorrow.
Thank you very much Unstable Load, useful links. I've borrowed a photo from photo rocket on the other thread, clearly shows the solid, bent rod that I'm looking for. Any suggestions as to supplier or part number? It almost looks as if I could fettle something from a coat hanger.
Edit: just...
Hi all,
V8 almost certainly from a P6 (compression ratio marked as 10.5:1), fitted in a Stag. Choke linkage between SU carbs is missing, any pointers to part numbers and suppliers would be gratefully received!
Burlen tell me that the parts are Rover rather than SU.
