White 1972 Rover 2000 in Bangor, N. Wales.

I today (30th April 2014) saw a white 1972 Rover 2000, Reg. Number. HVG 165L, in Kwik Fit (or National Tyres - they're next door to each other, and I can never recall which one is on which side!) on Garth Road, Bangor, North Wales. It was being driven around the yard, seemed to be in excellent...

    Anti-freeze

Very good policy. I'm told however that some ethylene glycol antifreeze manufactured are now 'laced' with a bittering agent to make them less attractive, but I'd still clear any leakages or spillages immediately.

    Uneven compressions

Looking at the 2nd photo in your post (and taken the liberty of copy-and-paste, rotated, and marked the area in question!), is that a crack in the cylinder wall? (which I have 'looped' [my free hand mouse skills aren't that good!])

Plastic engine fan fail!? Electric fan size?

Ah. I think we were under the impression that when the fan is on, the ammeter needle was swinging to the right (the + (charging) direction), but actually the ammeter needle moves to the left (the - (discharging) direction)

Plastic engine fan fail!? Electric fan size?

I'd say that depends on 2 factors. 1) what's the electrical current being drawn at the time and, 2) is the engine idling? If the motor is pulling 24A while the engine's idling, I wouldn't be surprised if the battery had to lend a hand.

    Cooling

I might be "in the past" here, but weren't aluminium radiators or heater matrices (plural of matrix) a problem with some Ford's during the 1980's? :?:

    The Infamous Series 2 Fusebox

I might be getting confused here, didn't one of us on this forum note that their S2 fusebox had soldered (or even crimped-then-soldered) connections? Does that alleviate the melting fusebox syndrome?

    Starter motor woes

Thanks Harvey and Ron. Crikey, all flooding back now! I had forgotten about the 3M100 with triangular shaped brushes! I also didn't realise the 3M100 was smaller...  I'm almost certain our old 1972 2000Auto (and yes, I'm well aware this is the V8 section!) had an...

Touring car legends ITV4 8pm tonight (Wed)

Re: Touring car legennds ITV4 8pm tonight (Wed) Just remember that the TV licence pays for the BBC, not ITV. You do, I think, however still need a licence to watch "live" TV, even if that's non-BBC (i.e. I mean "live" in the sense watching a channel in real-time, not as in the classic...

    Starter motor woes

You mean there were two types of motor fitted at the factory during production? Can either be fitted instead of the other (assuming there's sufficient clearance)?

A nice photo! Am I right in thinking that V8 unit has Zenith (sorry, they're Strombergs!!!) carbs as opposed to SU's?

That, I think, is the prequel to the Inspector Morse series. Endeavour was Morse's first name. I thought that was set in the 30's/40's, though.... (pre-P6)

    Muscle car T-shirts FREE COMP!

I hope the competition goes well, it would be nice to have a P6-based T-shirt. :) While I am in no doubt the intention is to promote the T-shirts, I do feel I have to ask if it's wise to suggest sending pictures of "kids or grandkids" (i.e minors) in this day and age? :|

    Tacho reading high.

Ah, OK... Darn it!!!! I'm sure it is possible to fit a V8 tacho face to the 4-pot tacho... or even fitting the innards of a 4-pot tacho into the belly of a V8 tacho. Just seems weird your tacho is reading roughly twice what it should :!:

    Tacho reading high.

Just to put one "way out there" possibility:- Using Ron's (SydneyRoverP6B's) figures from here :- 60mph is midway between 50mph and 70mph, so an approximation of the rpm at 60mph would be the mean of 2083rpm and 2917rpm, which is a nice round 2500rpm [but do feel free to check my working...

    Bringing Home 1964 2000

Those pictures were quite interesting! But I noticed that in the work list (the items/maintenance tasks) that they specify Champion N4 (or Lodge HLN - never heard of them before!) Spark Plugs set to .029 - .032 inches (29 - 32 thou) [and just to keep our resident Harvey 'happy' :P  ...
