Thanks Chaps, Can I leave the ballast resistor as is and just run another 12v supply from the washer bottle or does it have to be bypassed or eliminated?? RT.

    Running issues!!

Hi again, Have got everything together for a more extensive refresh of my ignition and fuel systems. New electronic distributor (ex: SimonBBC). New Lucas 17ACR 45amp. alternator. Fully rebuilt, rebushed carbs. Before I start the fitting I have two questions: The new alternator comes with a...

    Running issues!!

Hi again, Have checked timing again and it looks good. Sparking on all cylinders. Tried the original cleaned carbs and now worse than ever. Backfiring through carbs and exhaust, zero power, no idle/running without choke. What could have changed so radically?? RT.

Thanks folks. When I said "vacuum advance" is redundant I of course meant the dwell angle adjust!! My apologies. RT.

    Running issues!!

Hi Rob, From what I have been led to believe the vacuum advance becomes redundant with the electronic ignition. I do stand to be corrected though. RT.

The paradox of the rear decker seal....

Hi Ron, I briefly considered the idea that they have been incorrectly "extruded", but surely they would just take a copy of the original seal and manufacture accordingly. I have thrown off a couple of E-mails to the supplier (who shall remain nameless :? ) but funnily enough I have yet to...

The paradox of the rear decker seal....

Greetings again all, Here is a real brain blitzer. Had a reasonable rear decker seal on Winston (Rover No.1) but despite several efforts never got it to sit 100% true. It always had some loss of contact with the rear window. So I obtained another one off the 'Bay and decided to fit it to...

    Help please!!

Not sure Dave. Obviously not connected to the problem but will require further investigation. One of the hoses on the charcoal canister was loose, maybe the cause but will wait and see. RT.

    Help please!!

Hi All, Thanks as usual for the prompt replies. Very much appreciated. The fluffy toy goes to.............. Ron!!!!!! Spot on with your suggestion Ron. It was indeed the nylon nut that the dweel adjuster goes into. The thread had stripped and the screw would not bite meaning the points were...

    Help please!!

Hi All, Took the P6 to work today as normal. The weather here has been very hot (35-40deg) lately but the car has been coping well. Parked up at work and did my 12 hour shift. When I came to head home the car refused to start. The motor turned freely, plenty of fuel, the points looked OK, so...

    Strip speedo illumination

Hi again All, Not sure of the road based legalities of speed limits and how they relate to the use of instrument lights etc., but you will find this function on many cars. I would hazard a guess the majority after a certain age. My old Chrysler Valiant has it, my Barracuda has it, the little...

    Strip speedo illumination

Hi All, The "off" function on the dimmer switch is designed for night-time highway type driving. It allows you to turn off the dash lights so you can concentrate entirely on the road. RT.

    Windscreen seal change.... Oh dear.....

Hi All, Thanks for the replies. I looked at the A pillars when the screen was out. The area around the rivets (now replaced with SS screws) was sound as a pound with no obvious rot. Further investigation was needed so I wipped off the dash pad and the instrument binnacle. I also removed the...

Greetings all, As you may know I recently picked up a twin for Winston. All in all a reasonable motor. But........ Had some rain recently and found a paddle pool in the driver's side foot well.
