ok as ask--in 1991 I got hold of a p6 2000 sharkstooth-it was a 4 cylinder single carb----But was mashed on front passenger side-should have taken piccies-but did'nt--Put it in garage and then got married/kids etc---well in 2007--decided to do something with it---after get prices for parts-it was thousands-far more than car was worth-at the time -
so week later banger boys near were I live saw my p6 and said they had a smashed v8-no engine/box-but front end ok as rear was smashed in by a jag 420
so got them to drop shell by my garage
After stripping my p6 to bare shell cut tunnel and bulkhead/bay from it-braced shell with steel borrowed from work
then grafted v8 series 2 bay/bulkhead and tunnel into my p6-bit like a cut n shut I then cut.welded 10x10 square section steel through sills up A/B posts across top of doors----all this added strength--I then seam welded whole shell
Then fitted v8 front suspension and steering gear--at rear got v8 diff housing with land rover diff {took dad days of machining} so got lsd in there :D
this is beefed front suspension

the 2000 bonnet was fitted -but reinforcing bars had to be cut out-and you can see NADA vents fitted-to get rid of heat :x

the 2000 p6 headlight assembly had to be grafted into v8 bay-as series 1 are different-as you can see join

Thanks for sharing your project on here. I don't think photos alone are enough to do your hot rod P6 justice. We're going to need video and audio too!
Does the Buick 300 also have aluminium block and cylinder heads? I thought the heads were supposed to fit onto the Rover V8? Your dad had to make spacer plates to fill a gap between the intake ports of the Buick heads and the angled sides of the Rover intake manifold?
Have you timed it over a quarter mile? With and without the nitrous?

iron heads are Edelbrock=alloy
mate did one on you tube when it had a 2000 tailpipe so sounds flat -we fitted that to keep noise down -will do another one saturday-ok and quarters-not telling-thats for ne to know and others to find out

I love this, is it still single tailpipe or twins?

Have you ever thought about putting some exhaust cut-outs behind the front wheels for shows, unleashing all 5 litres of unsilenced glory 8)

It does sound awesome, I had a good look around this and Symes very kindly started it up and revved it a bit - I had to go and lie down

That's a very intelligent work spec! Just little things, like the NADA vents there for the right reason (to let air OUT). What transmission does it run and how did you connect it to the P6 selector? I'd like to know a great deal more about the diff mod - as this is one of the most difficult areas of the P6 when it comes to high outputs.

Oh, and I do agree, the standard SU carbs and manifold definitely aren't going to be up to this set up! I would be intrigued to see whether an RV8 injection manifold can flow enough air to cope though. If so that would represent a further upgrade along with megasquirt.

I want to come and play!!

its a 2 speed--came with engine--tig welded piece to side of sump pan for a dip stick+top up--not needed yet linkage is rover with a remade ratchet---it works---
the diff is 99% hand made--my dad used to tune engines for side car racing in the 60's--in fact he helped with most of the work on Black Rose--we are undecided about some bits though--like changing rear end completely to a solid axle with for bar location--as said only thinking at moment---too much fun driving it to put to put into workshop

Absolutely not my cup of tea, but I'm nonetheless very impressed with the work done, symes. All that welding two shells together, etc. I'm always totally envious of people who can do this sort of thing.

So what gears does it have, fast and faster?

thank you for being honest----I left it semi matt black because I have so much fun driving her about--if I damage a panel--doesn't matter what colour panel I fit and can paint match in 20/30 mins even outside another bonus is the money and time I save not getting the polish out every 5 minutes   had a laugh at the National Rally with some fellas shining their cars-and dust landing on their cars 5 minutes later---but hey each to their own ---Black Rose lives outside 24/7-been offered stupid money for her---yet would sell my body organs first---yes she's old/dirty/noisy---but do love her :D as the wife already knows :D :D

Great looking car, love seeing something different being done with P6s that isn't just bootlid spares and grille badges! Not a huge fan of the moons on the wheels, but hey.. it's not my car! And it sounds amazing to boot!

One quick question, that adhesive number plate on the bonnet.. has it ever caused you any problems with the coppers? I've always fancied one, as it cleans the front end up with no plate mount, but I was never too sure if it was strictly legal.. ?

Thanks, Jack

To answer your question I got reflective number plate material from motor factors and made stencils of plate from original number plate then cut them out and stuck o bonnet same as rally p6's from the 60's and no never had problems from police or MOT niether have I had problems with white front/red rear indicators either. In fact only stopped once by Police--They wanted to see the engine

Awesome, thanks for the info. A little food for thought...
Car looks great, can see why the coppers wanted to take a gander, bet it blows out a few cobwebs with just the cherrybomb back there.

My understanding is the black and silver number plates are registration marks, and do not need to be reflective in the same way as the later white/yellow plates. I have one to go on the front of mine, just need to paint my bonnet properly then I can stick it on 8)

Plenty of cars of the period had the registration mark stuck on the front edge of the bonnet so should be legal as long as it's visible from the front of the car. Later white/yellow plates are more of a grey area, as they are meant to be reflective, so it probably comes down to how pedantic a traffic officer wants to be.

That also doesn't include that all number plates manufactured as of a few years ago must have the company who manufactured them marked on the face, with records to prove that they have been bought legally with all documents presented at time of purchase. To make it more complex, you can still buy plates which comply with older regulations, but they are sold as 'show plates'

the only reason why I put number plate on bonnet is the fact of it blocking air flow to rad--not much-but every bit helps--my dad got idea of cutting air vents in sides of engine bay to pull some heat out---this will be done over Xmas---any excuse to get in my workshop eh

That's the same reason I bought my stick-on number plate, I attacked my valance with a 2" hole cutter then covered it over with a number plate  . It's leant back about as far as I risk it, almost following the profile of the valance so is barely visible from the front!

I'd be interested in what holes and where you put them in the bonnet? Will they be made watertight, or you just going to let water do it's thing whatever? I put a couple of extra vents in mine at the front, and noticed a difference in the temperature over the exhaust side after a thrash  (and a few more burnt in bugs  )
