I also think the sidelights aren't up to very much. I'm going to fit a set of open lamps with halogen bulbs to mine (as others have done), and I've seen that many of these lenses come with a sidelight bulb hole as well. If you use these and wire them into the same circuit (with a relay probably!) you could have 6 'side' lights across the front of the car. I reckon the combined light of all of these would be far more noticeable at dusk than the worn out dipped beam on my old sealed units, as the light is spread over a much broader area, so every one's a winner!
It's also always bothered me that a car with quad headlamps only ever seems to use the outer two, as main beam is not appropriate around town. With the full set of 6 sidelights, the inner pair would still be illuminated when the outer pair are on dipped beam, ensuring proper quad-light action from dusk till dawn!
Although that said, is there any ruling against having 4 dipped beams, or can the inner pair be mains only?
