Classic Car Rescue........

There's an article about this series in last weeks Classic Cars Weekly with restorers saying it's bringing the trade into disrepute.
I had to laugh at Bernie's attempts to paint the car - the rag on the roof and the paint on the wheels.
Why do they strip the paint off their cars with angle grinders ? At least use a DA sander

I laugh at everything he does. Comedy Gold. Funniest thing on telly at the moment. Every week you think he can't get any worse, and along he comes again to prove us all wrong. Master Mechanic. Priceless.

Oi! leave me out of it, and there's an 'e' on the end of Shakespeare the way we spell it,

John.

Quite right John, sorry.

Can't believe you're all still watching it.

No Problems Paul,
Watch it! It is unmissable comedy (as long as the bodgers don't get hold of a P6 to ruin) It's Tiswas for petrol heads. The fluent bollocks that these two rascals spout couldn't be improved upon by the late great Spike Milligan. The voice over spiel is comical too. I hated it at first, until I realised it was as spoof, like Spinal Tap, now it's a highlight of the week, it is a spoof.............

isn't it?

John.

The cloth on the roof while being painted was classic, how can he paint one side of the cloth, then above the cloth and only notice it when going to do the other side. Genius, pure genius. It's now on series link. Keeping my eye out for the box set on ebay :D

So...

I've just watched the MGBGT episode...

And...

I don't really know what to say  I am dumbfounded... I think I agree that there is no way that it's the same car at the end - nice use of the trade plates...

They completely glossed over the massive amount of bodywork that needed to be addressed - apart from the Webasto, which I thought they should have left. I am curious - 200 quid for all of the parts used on the build... including the electronic ignition conversion, all the metal work, and, the new interior and headliner and, and, and... don't forget the bullet mirrors that aren't used.

I see we have gone from 4 weeks to 3 weeks to 2 weeks to complete the build - let's not foget that the 2 weeks included firing the crew for a couple of days - plus a good ol cockney knees up sing along where everyone makes up over a pint of whelks and some jellied eels - cor strewth Bernie me old china plate, your 'avin a laugh incha?

The narrator is tops - question... "how do we get this to look like this?" Cues picture of two dissimilar models... I dunno... start with a different car?

What does the future hold in store for us? They have threatened to restore a V8 next... To echo John - please be a spoof, please be a spoof, please be a spoof...

Isn't this a bit like DIY SOS and other house renovation programmes where they restore a wreck of a house for a few £'s and in a few days ? Would people watch it if they showed how long it really takes and how much it costs ?

I can quite happily watch Mark Evans, and he makes a series out of doing one vehicle. (He also shows a lot of his c*ck-ups when he makes them as well as admitting it goes way over budget a lot of the time).

I like the Mark Evans programs - he has his little quirks, but compared to Bernie et al he's great.

I have just discovered something even worse than Bernie and Mario - I have just watched "Strippers - Cars for Cash" Needless to say I was disapointed that they meant stripping the car and not... Other than that, it was awful. Is the entire motor trade dominated by geezers wiv patter that would make Guy Ritchie cringe?

I'm a fan of the Mark Evans programmes , it looks like he does the job properly
Now I'll have to watch Strippers-Cars for cash just to see how bad it is .............
There's another one where 2 chaps purchased an old gasser and restored it in a week !

I like the Mark Evans programmes as well, but the MGB one annoyed me a bit.... It was just 12 episodes of "We're restoring this classic MGB, now bear with us while we unpack this box of remanufactured parts"
He didn't really get stuck into it like he did wit the E Type one - it was as if he was building a kit car - there was barely anything of the old car left by the end!
I saw it for sale in Practical Classics about 6 months after the programme finished. He wanted £20k for it, which was a stupid amount then, but doesn't seem so awful now.... for a completely original '62 car!

Michael

What, When, Where is this Mark Evens programme on.... Knowing my luck SKY  which I dont have :?
