Fitting Webasto

How difficult would it be to remove a webasto from one roof and install into another roof ie mine (huntsman )

Hi Mick did you win the one on eb*y,
I would say easyer to change whole roof over unless confident in having the correct measurements for cutting out the hole :?
saying that sounds like you have a ready made template and being a skilled tradesman I have confidance in you  :D
let us know how you get on.

So not the one on eb*y then that looked huntsman to me I was watching it unfortunatley unable to bid on it at this time and i like my huntsman too and would love a webasto in it in huntsman off course :D

You will find that the headlining cannot be easily cut to fit the hole.
Far easier to remove the whole roof and headlining and fit complete webasto roof and lining.

I had a lead on some huntsman material to recover my roof and webasto, but it was not the same colour as on my car,"there are 3 shades I think".
I am going to a local trimmer asap to try and get a close a match as poss to what I have,as I will have to recover the roof and 1/4 panels myself, and have the webasto section recovered then fit it.
To do this I expect I will not get change out of £350.

Having changed a roof and fitted new vinyl to the new roof and c-pillars I would say that this would be easier than trying to fit a Webasto to your existing roof, especially getting the headling right. I purchased my vinyl from Martrim in Sanbach. They do a very similar Everflex type vinyl, not sure how close their colour is to original hunstman but they might be able to send a sample to compare.

The material is a vynil, there are 2 or 3 types used in cars,so you need the correct one to use.
If you are thinking of having a trimmer fit a complete new webasto from scratch then you will have to go to one who specialises in them and budget on no less than £1000+ vat probably more.
Any good classic auto trimmer should be able to make a new outer cover if they use the old one as a pattern, thats about £150 then it needs to be fitted to the folding framework,"another £100ish" and then fitted to the car "another £100ish!" Thats not including any headlining they may have to redo on it.
The way I did it a few years ago was to buy a complete webasto roof and 1/4 panels, then cut the whole roof off the rusty donor car mid door pillar for £125.
Removed my existing roof and headlining and fitted replacement over a dry weekend.
Its not cheap starting from scratch, and its near impossible to buy a perfect huntsman roof ready to fit, although if you do get one it may not leak, may have a few rips, and do you for a few years.
BTW!!
Martrim could not match my sample and the closest they had was not even close in colour or texture.

Any of you guys with a webasto have any pics from the inside of the car at the headlining, just picked up a roof with webast but no headlining only on the webasto, just want to see how its patched in. cheers Mick

Mick, If you can wait a couple of days I can get some pics of my Weathershield if no one comes up with anything. I haven't any on file, it's not something I usually take pics of.

Absolutely no rush John, im going to read through all the posts and take my time and even then it might not be till the warmer weather arrives. This is where a garage would be so much easier. Still contemplating complete roof, but new roof is painted (no Huntsman) or take the webasto out, cut my roof (with Huntsman) and fit webasto into it, research is the key. But any photo is much appreciated. cheers Mick

Rightio, I will get some shots hopefully tomorrow night. I do know the headlining around the sunroof has an aluminium angle edging.

John

ahhh that helps already, thats what i was worried about. How did they finish it their, I was thinking along them lines

Mick, looking at the only roof pic I have It looks more like C section

Ignore the tree.

As there are a few makers of webasto's,they all have differring ways of headlining fitting.
I will do you a few pics of my tudor webasto headlining fitting asap.
Some cover the inner edges and lining with a trim,so thats simple, other tailor fit the lining and fold it around the frame edge covering up the framework.
You could probably do it pretty well, just needing the odd patch put in at the corners to cover up the gaps.
