Fitting Webasto

Thanks John, think that's what I had in mind of doing.
Pilkie the one I have just got is a Tudor Webasto so all help appreciated

The one with the chrome handle, wood frame, locating guides and hopefully the fitters, and makers plaques.
You will need to fit the wood frame,as it all attaches to that.
The good thing is,as you have the complete roof with it in,you can slowly take it apart, making notes,to see how it will go back together.
Also used the donor roofs hole to make a perfect template to cut your roof.
Is the webasto you have bought brown or black?,if brown does it match your huntsman?
Having no garage doesnt help, really need to be under cover if its a bit at a time job or at least a good dry long weekend.

Would love to take it out of its original roof and refit in my roof, but looks a bit involved to do that. It is the one you described, didn't want to start trying to take it out to then find out I have knackered it. So was thinking of removing my roof and fitting the roof with it in to my car. Not ideal as I like the huntsman.

Dont think black roof will suit as you will have to change 1/4's and sills, and not sure if brown int will then look right?

The webasto is brown ( bit darker than huntsman though) the roof it's in is Mexico. Because I didn't think you could remove the webasto and refit into my existing roof ( which I would prefer to do) I was thinking of painting the Mexico roof huntsman brown to fit in with my car

done a bit of digging on tinternet and managed to suss it, now to take it to a trimmer to see if he can match it to huntsman colour or as close as

No joy on matching, a company down south is still producing/repairing Tudor Webasto sunroofs and have said they do not manufacture brown at all. A couple of shades of white, then its biscuit colours and straight to black. Why is this proving such a pain :x Its starting to look like changing the roof, quarter panels and sill covers to black, with a white car and Mango interior mmmmmmmmmm. What do you guys think ?

Richard they do and they are, but, their is always a but, they have nothing to do with the type we use ie Tudor, all they deal with is the tilt and open ones. But their is a company down south who took over the Tudor webasto and they refurb and sell parts for them. But they cant supply any brown everflex, whites, biscuit colours and black.
Have found a trimmer up here who says he can get brown everflex, two shades , but it will be darker that my Huntsman, so looks like thats the way forward

Ive been trying to get a match all this year!
Tried everywhere I could find, and no luck!!As there are actually 3 shades of huntsman brown used!!!
I am waiting on a sample of a lighter shade than mine of some original material I know about to see if it will suit, would mean recovering the whole roof and 1/4's as well but at least it will be all the same colour.
Only rover enthusiasts would know that if you got a std off the shelf brown, that it was wrong.
Get a couple of good samples of the browns from the trimmer you have found, before you decide.
The darker huntsman was used on later cars and the texture differs as well, its smoother.

Just don't think it's going to be right, in 1974 could I buy an 3500s Arctic White and Black , with Mango interior?

Seen that but it doesn't mention huntsman, black just paint and interior. Think I may go down the Black road

Now have you considered doing the webasto roof, roof and 1/4's vinyl ,and sills in mango!!
That will be unique!!

I remember a guy called Peter Harvey refurbed my Britax roof some years ago, but also does Webastos.

Did a grand job indeed, not sure if he is still around to help with the Huntsman.

Lot of colours going on with that combo 8) Almost decided now to have black webasto, vinyl and sills. Has anyone put vinyl on to their roof? Is it straight forward to do ?

I did my dolomite sprint roof about 15 yrs ago.
Preperation is the key,can be done with roof on but better done with roof off as you can tuck the edges under.
Doing it on a nice calm warm day.
Are you going to get the webasto recovered ready to fit or send them the cover as a pattern to make you a cover and fit yourself?
Give the roof a good degrease and use a scotch pad or 300 grade w/d to give the paint a key for the glue, then clean roof with a tack cloth/panel wipe.
Lay your material over the roof and secure it at the edges with wooden clothes pegs.
the doing a 1/2 at a time spread the glue onto the roof and lay the vynil, you can use a wallpaper firm roller to press it down and eliminate any bubbles, once it is all glued and tucked under leave it for a day to go off, then trim out the excess for the hole, there should be enough from there to do the 1/4's.
If I were you I would fit the new roof without the webasto in,then trim up the headlining to fit the hole as best you can and fill/glue in the gaps with offcuts.
Also you will need to use some new sealant for the roof frame to roof joint.
Refitting the webasto should be the reverse of taking it out, remember to tension those side wires though.
