Refurbing my new old alloys

You can get nuts which go onto the 7/16" P6 studs for the SD1 wheel from Geoff at Wins International. :D

Nice one Saab-master

Where you you last year when I fitted mine? :)

Richard.

In the words of Etta James, At last!

Just need my tyres now!

Not sure what you decided to do about your wheel nuts Corazon, the ones from Wins are good looking quality and a nice black finish, but... mine cost me £75 by the time they were sent, and watch the thread depth carefully! Incase you hadn't spotted my recent thread...

Adam, yeah i was just reading your post...and had decided on 205/60s today strangely enough.
Your paintwork looks nice in the photos!
The plan today was to go get my part worns but they only had two in stock, seems they're quite a bit rarer the 205/60.
Will have to wait a couple of days.
Some of the chrome on my wheelnuts has started peeling so i'm going ahead with painting them, no sense in rusty bits on shiny wheels!

Mine sits quite low at the back too, i think i may have some fun like yourself

How are you getting on with your wheels Corazon?

I've been tinkering with mine again over the last few days, I thought I'd got the arch problem sorted on the drivers side, then I took my eighteen-stone brother for a ride in it. A little extra movement was required! I got the jack back in there and kept winding until I found myself wincing. That sorted it...

I still dont have my tyres annoyingly..
Hopefully tomorrow, then i'll let you know Adam
Wheel nuts, i etch primed directly on the chrome then painted and they seem hardy enough for now
Good to hear you've found a simple enough solution to yours, looking forward to some final fitted photos.

Rovering Member: I just got a product called Belgom Alu, you should check it out if you haven't heard of it.
Perfect for unlacquered polished rims :)

Got my tyres today!
Only had time to get one on before it starting getting dark, but here's a preview

No clearance trouble that i can see yet.
Man i had to break out the sledgehammer to remove the old studs
Jim

That's no excuse... I'd be working out there in the dark Jim! :)

It looks really good on there, the green and the polished rim/black centre combination look really classy. I'd seen a picture of black/polished rims on a red car on another thread and they didn't as good as yours. Mine are getting coated "power silver" and should be ready tomorrow. I'll race you to see who can get a picture of Vitessed up P6 on the forum first... GO!

I thought you were exaggerating, then I spotted the Sledgehammer in the picture...

I also forgot you were going the SD1 stud route too, perhaps it's an unfair race.

I agree that the silver wheels look better on Monza, but that black and green is positively drool worthy :) :)

Yeah 'course... It has to be a 'current' picture though, and we know Sparky is still looking bare... unless you've made some rapid progress?

Richard that's got to be the worst Monza colour match I've ever seen

If you look carefullly Richard, it isn't the best Lunar Grey match either

Ha ha...

Well I think I deserve a prize, I got my wheels back (They look amazing, better than I'd hoped) with a matching set of Continentals and I went out and put them on in the rain and the dark. To be honest I just didn't want to lose half my Saturday changing wheels over. They look superb but, the picture I took doesn't do them justice really as it's too dark now. Tomorrow a picture will surface.

Looking forward to those photos
I've had some issues with a couple of the 2nd hand sd1 studs today :(
They weren't locking into the hub correctly when tightening with a nut, basically the teeth are too worn.
Gonna have to order some spares from Rimmers for the front wheels.
The rears are both on securely, but now the suspension has settled i think i may need to do some d post work too.
How much room have you made there Adam?
I can get my finger in the gap, but i'd be happier with some more!

Not much!

Mine was way too far in anyway so I actually moved it quite a lot, probably an inch if I'm honest

I can only really get a finger and a half in mine now, but there is no rubbing at all after tonight's test. I would take it out for a good run too see if it rubs, you'll know about it if it does! It makes a right racket. And if it does of course come straight back home again pronto. If your first test is successful fill your boot with your old wheels and commandeer some passengers for some roundabout action. You'll find that it's spirited roundabout driving that will get the tyre and the D-Post kissing each other if they're going to.

On a related note, the front grease caps... P6 ones are too long and push the centre caps off a touch and I'm wasn't sure the wheels cleared the rim (that is flat against the hub), SD1 caps are discontinued and Rimmers are out of them. I didn't have the patience to saw mine in case it went Pete Tong, so I nipped to Halfords and bought a pair of universal 5 stud wheel spacers in the thinnest size they do, (about 1.5mm, but curiously I couldn't find any reference of size on the packet). Anyway, they space the wheels over the grease caps nicely and aren't going to affect the handling much being that thin.

Good luck with your test!
