Rover P6 Club National Rally, Petworth, September 2nd 2012:

How many people are making a weekend of it and staying the Saturday night? Petworth village and the area around look really nice and there are a lot of other intersting places to visit.

Chris

I'll be just there on the Sunday. Any idea if there's going to be anything for kids? Bouncy castle like last year? Just trying to work out if I could bring Pheebs....

Rich.

A couple of pictures of the town to give you a taste of Petworth and I am organsising a group dinner for the Saturday night for any one staying in/near Petworth.

PM me if you want details/to be added to the list

See you all in my home town of Petworth! (I've already won the trophy for shortest distance travelled!)

Neil

 :!:

We will be there on Saturday, so add us to the (ANY :D ) list, if you do not mind if we pay on arrival - we are too lazy to pay from here and VERY spoiled by Chris ... .

We just MIGHT be the ones with the longest traveling distance - but I know there is somabody from Berlin who would do the trip JUST to take THAT trophy away from us  :!:

If you still haven't made up your mind about coming to Petworth, there is plenty to do in the area . Here is a summary of just some of the attractions

Set in the newly formed South Downs National park, the town of Petworth itself traces its origins back to medieval times. Its winding lanes and quaint old buildings give the impression that time has stood still. The rally location is only a five minute walk from the town – just walk through the visitor entrance to Petworth House and you are in the town centre! Other attractions include the charming Cottage Museum (open on Saturday for those arriving on the 1st of September) and just on the outskirts of the town, the Coultershaw waterwheel-driven three-throw beam pump, installed in 1782, continues to pump water from the River Rother up to Petworth, 1.5 miles away. The pump will be operating for visitors to view on the Saturday and Sunday of our rally weekend. For those staying over the weekend, other attractions within less than half an hour’s drive of Petworth include the county town of Chichester with its magnificent cathedral, Amberley Industrial Museum (well worth a visit of you are interested in the history of transport, telecommunications, local industries, and much, much more), walking on The South Downs Way, or even a visit to Sussex by the sea on beaches of Selsey, Pagham or Chichester Harbour. Arundel Castle, the delightful Elizabethan mansion and gardens at Parham House and Weald & Downland Open Air Museum are other nearby attractions to help you make the most of an extended stay in or around Petworth.

Hi All

The Petworth Organising Committee are getting into high gear!

You will have seen Neil's post above showing us what a lovely area Petworth is in. And there are lots of other attractions locally that are likey to appeal to P6 enthusiasts. I think my favourite is Amberley museum. I's based in an old chalk quarry and has llots of industrial and heritage displays and things to do. And it's open on Saturday!

So there really is no excuse for those of you living far away. Make a long weekend of it! Split the driving between the Fricay night and the Sunday evening. You can even come and have dinner with us all on the Saturday night!

t's about time we all awarded ouselves a weekend away after all the doom and gloom of the economy and the over-excitement of the Olympics!

At Petworth on the Sunday, we are selling tickets to come and tour the house as well as all the P6 activities. Many will know that the interior of the house has featured in a full TV series of the challenges and successes of bringing it back to life. It's well worth seeing the real thing! The tickets are on sale from the Club at £3.50 per person. Together with the £5 per person entrance charge for the rally, that make £8.50 per person instead of the £11.80 charged to ordinary visitors by the National Trust. We do aim to be inflation busters!

On the P6 front, we now have a confirmed trade stand from Geoff Unwinn of Winn and Co. So if you have any parts you need for your P6, order them through Geoff and collect them on the day. No postage to pay! Another P6 Club inflation buster!

There will definitely be some demonstrations of work on P6's, in the best Club tradition! More details of those to follow later! And we think there should be at least some examples of the Club's new regalia range present, including fitting demonstrations. There, that's got you guessing! More details later.

Dave Griffin on 01252 837454 will be happy to take your bookings right up to the day before. But if you leave it too late you might not get a rally plaque!

We look on course to have at least 50 P6's at the moment, so it's sure to be a good show.

Chris

Other than "I have a prior commitment that weekend that I cannot get out of  Otherwise I'd be there. I hate missing out on these events. Sounds like it'll be a great day out :D

I think we'll ramble on down. Not sure whether it will be Great Aunt Emily or Bruiser yet. Would there be a problem if one was marked & we turned up in the other?

I'm sure the team is flexible enough to cope with that! Only hazard is that you might finish up with a Rally Plaque for a car you didn't attend in! And I'm afraid Great Aunt Emily won't score too highly in the judging for the "Best P6" contest!
