This car was seen in Hornchurch Essex a few weeks ago.... does anyone know of it?

Right Jim.... I think I know the man fairly well.... he is the one who carries guns all the time :)

As for the one off Coakroach Ally I might see it as, when at work, I park my car at the rear of the pig sty. I have been told that there is one on the cess pit housing estate off Muck Road, so maybe I'll look up there when I am in the area. Maybe we are a P6 loving area and maybe we should have a very local mini meet once I get my car back :D

Not that I'm having a go at anyone, but personally I wouldn't like exact directions as to where to find my street or driveway parked P6 posted up on an open forum, especially if I might not even be a member of said forum. Any classic car is at risk from thieves as we all know (mainly for one purpose) & they're easy enough to steal as it is once they're located (take a look at the P5 forum), so I really don't think it's a good idea to make it any easier for any interested parties who might join the forum for this purpose. Just imagine what you would think if the same details were posted about your car.
Just a thought.

I tend to agree Harvey!! :(
If my location details were post like that I would be F~~#ING FURIOUS!!
Would strongly suggest they edit or delete the posts before webby does!!!

Pilkie, this from the man who has shown to all the contents of his garage, his tool chest, ramps, both motors, trolley jack, back door access, working hours all in glorious technicolour, hailing from Yately in Bristol.

Please, any London car thief would seriously not waste the petrol to go and nick an old Rover 2000 worth a monkey and risk potentially 2 years ... I will amend the post, but please ladies, calm down.

But you have about 30,000 houses, and god knows how many roads, closes, lanes, etc to choose from to find me!
Not a street by street directional map!!
And you would get lost straight away as youve got the town wrong already!

:D No, but you get my point. To be fair it would not be hard to find anyone, especially if they sell on ebay etc.

I think thieves of cars, houses etc are the scum of the earth and as such it didnt even enter my head the implications of giving out the address. I saw it as an opportunity for enthusiats to meet up, not for thieves to nick the cars. Sign of the times eh!

MODERATORS VIEW

Take the point about providing details that are too precise in what is, after all a PUBLIC forum. Which of course is why we have moderators. Whilst we take seriosly keeping an eye on things it is always possible an "undesirable" will slip through.

I would suggest that the line is crossed when you move from providing detail that allows someone who already knows the location, car, address etc to recognise it, on to details that allow a stranger to spot things. Pilkie has got it right in this respect.

From the person who pointed this out in the first place; if a member such as Pilkie posts about his own car, that is one thing. To post about somebody else's car, possibly without their knowledge is another thing entirely & really the whole issue just boils down to common sense & decency. Post what you like about your own car including how to find it if you wish, but don't do it about other people's cars without the express permission of the owner of that car, whether they sell on ebay or not.
And sarcastic re-posts notwithstanding, I'm not assuming for one second that it was done maliciously, but as I said, if it was done in respect of any of my cars, I wouldn't be happy about it in the least.
Car thieves steal certain types of vehicles for different reasons whether they are from London or not & most classic cars are NOT stolen for their monetary value which in most cases is relatively low.
I repeat, imagine how YOU would feel if somebody else posted accurate directions to YOUR car that you had spent a large amount of money on or that you simply loved (& I think both of these apply to you TwinPlenum).
Admit it, you WOULDN'T like it!

On the subject of thieving scroats!
I had a few bits and bobs for sale at a popular classic event at Malvern, one of which was a Desmo 17" clamp on badge bar.
I went to the loo, only to come back to find someone had stolen the mountings an left the bar!
Even it seems, some classic car lovers are thieving low life scroats and should have their balls chopped off!
They definitely have something wrong in their brains,to think they can have what they want just by taking it and sod the feelings of the owner!!
Again, what would they think if an item they had actually paid good "CLEAN" money for, was stolen! Probably, "oh well never mind I'll just go and nick one!"

As a general comment it certainly is a sign of the times and the thief doesn't have to do much research away from his PC these days.
I'm also involved in the motorcycle world and people posted on the Forum a whole host of information including where they keep it, what security devices, pics of the inside of garages in gallery entrys, how long they're away on hols etc etc all innocently and over 1000s of posts and these robbing so and sos join and pretend to be enthusiasts and glean all the info at leisure.
The internet is great but it's hard to think like a thief would all the time :(
In saying that my 9k bike was stolen in broad daylight and I never posted any info

My post has been edited with a massive dose of 'tongue in cheek' daft humour

Take it for the way it has been intended..... as humour :D

At the end of the day anyone can be found. If you operate in car circles, you operate in a network, everybody knows everybody, you know that Rovering Member as our paths have crossed via a 3rd party. Anybody can be found. As such why not remove this section "Cars Spotted", as anybody can log on and will be aware of where cars are, more or less and set to work.

To say a car is located exactly in X was perhaps naive, but please keep your hair on. As stated before, car theft can lead to a 2 year stretch .... for a £500 Rover 2000, highly unlikely. I mean seriously WHO is going to nick that car?? What is it worth broken, even if it is super tidy, which it isnt! If it is a minter, which it isnt, somebody would have to ring it!! Ringing a Rover 2000!!! Mate there is more chance of waking up one morning to find this country's immigartaion problem was all a bad dream.

As for the other point about members showing their houses, cars etc. I appreciate that it is done willingly and with the consent of that person, BUT, following on from the theme that forums are under surveillance, then a silly move? As stated before, we all know what certains peoples garages contain, their layout, garden layout, work they do in the day etc etc etc. We know they sell on ebay using the same name, hich would generate an address.

Basically, I think we can all learn a lesson here. ALL OF US, need to think about what we are posting. Whilst we are all friendly, decent blokes who like our Rovers, this is the internet and all sorts can access our "lives". Before posting, we all should bear this in mind. As for thse of you that have had a go at me over this, i'll return your handbags later girls!!

You've hit the nail on the head there TP!!
Try thinking before you make a post or reading posts thoroughly before replying to a post! :|
Those who decide to post pics of cars, houses and garages, like me do it willingly, and know the risks involved.
Anyone selling on Ebay who invites a buyer to come and collect is also open to possible theft, and knows the risks!
Those who post about someone else's car and location of it and the house, are basically invading that persons privacy, and that is also a crime punishable by a fine and even imprisonment!
Criminals dont even think about the possible fine or prison sentence, they dont have normal brains like most of us!!
All they see is an easy target to make money to feed their habits!
We are, ALL!! guilty of theft at some point in our lives,be it a Mars bar from the corner shop,or picking up a £5 that you see someone drop, and shoving it in your own pocket,or nicking 50p from mums purse,,its part of growing up!!
Some learn by it,others don't and go on to be part of the scum of the earth.
