Yet another Rover.......

OK will give this a bash and see if it works.

There should be some photos after this bit.

The first should be the new prop shaft next to the old one, and the second the mockup of the new gauges.

See if this works

PS the old 3.9 is waiting for a fuel injection kit and a quick freshen up before getting stuffed into the Blue Car.

Managed to get some work done on the car despite work giving me money and the kids spending it!

Mocked up the dash and centre console in MDF as it is a lot easier to work with, not to mention cheaper if you stuff it up

Half way through bashing the new centre console out of alloy. More photos when complete but it will look a lot like the mockup!

Seems the photo of the new prop shaft got missed so hope it works this time!

Hi Guy,

Doing test runs with mock up dummies although time consuming always pays dividends in the end. The alloy centre console looks pretty neat!

Is your new tailshaft a larger diameter compared to the original item? Are the uni joints running in phase, which I undestand is by far the most common method these days, or out of phase like the original?

Ron.

Mangaged to get some more work done on the car.

The new centre console has everything that I need and fills the odd shaped hole caused by the repositioned gear shift quite well. Just need to get the old finger out over the christmas leave period and get the car off to have the new exhaust fitted.

More soon

Cheers

I really like this car, the time and effort going into it is immense. I always look forward to seeing updates and progress 8)

Progress!

Sorted out the wiring for the new dash (everything works  ), sorted out the wiring for the centre console (everything works  ), still to sort out why my indicators will only flash together no matter how the switches are positioned :?

Mocked up the oil cooler mount in MDF, just need to cut it out of steel and weld into place before plumbing everything up.

Mocked up a front spoiler (well, half of a front spoiler  ) based on the works cars. Any thoughts from the forum?

More when I can....pictures to keep everyone up to date

It's going to be a monster! Guy, I reckon you could trim a bit more off your spoiler thus;

Starters for 10 looking good!

I could be tempted to box it in the downwards direction to form an air dam? And carry that on along under the lower rad scoop?

One thing I intend to do on mine when the engine is next out is to plate between the bottom of the valance and the front of the engine cross-member, so that there is no temptaion for air to enter the engine bay other than through the radiator.

Chris

I like the spoiler .Presuambly it will be thick enough so the Police don't accuse you of having sharp edges which might cut pedestrain's legs?

Thanks for the responses!

I will trim the spoiler a little and with the new oil cooler requiring the front scoop to be extended the intention was to fair in the bottom of the cross member anyway. We are actually looking at re-doing the cross member in tubular steel as well in order to give a little more room for oil filters etc, espcially noting that we are looking to fit a power steering cooler as well. The intention with the design is the downward angle will actually force air up and over the side wings in order to keep the front on the ground, the tendency of the P6 to lift off at high speeds is well known after all  . I am also looking at running the spoiler across the front of the new chin scoop once made sort of like a V8 supercar, but we will have to see. After all it has to look right (read: cool) even if it is not 100% effective 8)

Also on the cards (not just now however) is a total front floor replacement since the current floor has a LOT of little holes in it, and the transmission tunnel is a bit poorly. Plans will be to put in a flat floor to give me a little more headroom (6' 7" and all :? )

Back to work soon but I hope to have time to get it finished this year (promise  )

Cheers

The "cross member" that normally lives under the radiator is structurally redundant and can be omitted without any consequence. The only reason I can think of for it having been fitted is to provide something solid for transport tie downs eg on a ship or car transporter. I was referring to the gap between trailing edge of the valance to the leading edge of the engine cross member.
