Hi chris yes thats right, the only reason im putting a late type in is at the time thats what i could get hold off (from nick dunning) so im going ahead with the conversion as mine was leaking and worn out due to not being topped up or just a heavy leak by the state of it around that area in the engine bay so im sure its going to feel a whole lot nicer to drive once done. I would rebuild the original but to be honest i hate having the car in bits for any length of time lol once done i will report back to this post on how it feels thanks! Interested to see you say you are fitting a later type steering box in place of an early type. Have I got that right?
Reason I ask is that the later type steering boxes are generally thought to give much heavier steering than the early type. So I shall be very interested to hear what you find.
What was the problem with the original? It is very possible it is easily fixed as manual steering boxes have adjustment within and it's (relatively) easy to change seals.
