The bottom one is the easier of the 2 IMO. Fork type splitter straight in and hammer away The top one has more distance between solid surfaces for the fork type splitter to wedge into so you end up hammering the fork all the way in and not achieving very much. A couple of thick spanners wedged underneath does the trick. Well it worked for me
I usually release the bottom one first so the lower arm is not supporting the weight of the swivel pillar whilst I attack the top one. If you're replacing the pillar anyway it won't matter too much if you destroy the joints in the process of removal so get whacking
