Re: MGTF1500 resto.524 YUR is LEGAL! The interior refit starts!

Admiring your upholstery work there - and everything else you've done...

Came across one for sale over here, RHD number 27500 of 29000 produced it says, in "original" condition. The asking price equates to £20k. No idea what they fetch in the UK but to me that's a valuable car!

Re: MGTF1500 resto.524 YUR is LEGAL! The interior refit starts!

Hi Tor.

Cheers,,,

That one you mention is a TD,mine is a TF1500 and only 9600 TF's in total were produced and 3400 of those were TF1500's the others were 1250cc as the TD was.
If my reading of the chassis number sequence is correct, mine is the 280th TF1500 made.
Widely regarded and the prettiest MG they ever made!
Morgan carried on with, and still use the basic design/look today!
Hopefully it wont take long to sell once its ready!
At least the time of year will be right to find a buyer with a spare few £grand to buy a holiday car for his villa in Spain/Italy etc!!! 8)

Ah... So it is [face/palm]. Think I shall make a cup of tea right now.

Re: MGTF1500 resto.524 YUR is LEGAL! The interior refit starts!

UPDATE!!!
Had to measure all the sections to have vinyl glued to them and make a cutting plan.
Measured and checked 4 times before cutting!
Rear stowage box frame and lid and wheel arches done, doors fitted, new grille slats assembled, wheels refurbed.
Pedal rubbers, dust cover, floor access panel and tranny tunnel all fitted ok.
Just a few bits of fettling with door locks to do,and I can tack on all the trim panels, bung the carpets down, bolt the seats in,fit the aeroscreens, refit the dash and wiring, and get the new tyres fitted to the refurbished wheels.
The early 15" motolita I got from Arthuy has come back from my antique mate, fully refurbished looking great, and ive adapted and made a suitable center fitting for the too modern looking boss.
Hopefully the rechromed grille surround and new tonneau will arrive next week.

Re: MGTF1500 resto.524 YUR is LEGAL! The interior refit starts!

Finished off the steering wheel this morning. :)
I used a LARGE 1950's chrome and enamel MG badge with a threaded fixing,I found at an autojumble, screwed onto a std black boss center,as the curve was the same and its not obvious how its done!
Its identical to the one thats used on the TF's rear mounted spare wheels hubcap!!
Just got to find the box with the fitting ring chrome screws!! :?:

Re: MGTF1500 resto.524 YUR is LEGAL! The interior refit starts!

Good luck assembling it all. Forgive my ignorance - is it the original steering wheel refurbished or is it a later addition?

Re: MGTF1500 resto.524 YUR is LEGAL! The interior refit starts!

That's all looking quality work, well done. Should turn in a tidy profit & I would imagine it will be a little bit more useable with the later mechanicals.

Front 1/4 panels done, dash roll and glove boxes fitted.

Re: MGTF1500 resto.Carpets and seats are in,nearly all finished

Its VERY close to the end now!!
Carpets and seats are in,got to cut a hole for the new gearlever position, and trim a gaiter in,then only the underdash panel to fit when all the wiring has been tested on the road.
The handbrake was in need of a rechrome or paint, but I had another idea!
Painted the mount and covered the rest in vinyl.

Re: MGTF1500 resto.Carpets and seats are in,nearly all finished

I agreed to buy the car on 19/3/12 and it was delivered and paid for on saturday the 24th March 2012.
I allowed myself 1 yr to do it,and a budget of £??,000 which included a 10% contingency and the purchase price.
I think I am just within budget??
I havent added it all up yet!?
And it will be all but finished this weekend ready for its maiden drive, weather permitting on sat or sun, which is 1yr from getting it!
In reality,I should of had it done at least 3 months ago,but I got a bit lazy after I quit my job in Oct 2012.
A week of test driving and fettling before,"weather permitting",attending the Coleford festival of Transport on Easter monday in the Forest of Dean.

Re: MGTF1500 resto.Carpets and seats are in,nearly all finished

I'm still not a fan of the dashboard instruments, but you've done a very nice job on this one! :)

Re: MGTF1500 resto.Carpets and seats are in,nearly all finished

There was no alternative!
They only really differ in being round and not octagonal anyway!
I could not adapt the originals to suit the engine and box!
Even a basic resto of each dial to std spec would be £250 each!
The speedo would have to be recalibrated, the tacho is mechanical drive, and the only thing on the 3 in 1 cluster thats electric is the amps.
The new owner can have the pleasure of sourcing an original engine and restoring the original dials to match if they so wish!!
