Re: MGTF1500 resto.Carpets and seats are in,nearly all finished

Did you ever think of converting it to RHD or do you think it's got a wider market if left LHD?

Re: MGTF1500 resto.Carpets and seats are in,nearly all finished

Well its all but finished!! :D
Pending me finding the gearlever I made and the weather, tomorrow it will be driven for the 1st time in 27yrs.
I am rather annoyed with myself,as when I was fitting the 4 bonnet catches,it caught an edge right near the front grille and chipped the paint!
Fortunately the glare of the chrome sort of hides it,and when Dean does its mop and polish,he can touch any bits in that he finds, along with the one down by the lower door hinge!
Pics in the garage, not as good as I had hoped,so will do some more tomorrow under the carport.

Easily done. It's looking great though.

Re: MGTF1500resto.All but finished,1st drive tomorrow,if its dry

Test drive went very well today.
The brakes need adjusting and a possible re-bleed,but apart from that it went great!
Will fettle the timing and carbs to best performance, and get an extra pair of thermals to wear this week,as its FFFFFFFing!! cold!!
Just got back in time to meet up with Mr York, and Mr Dunning as they needed an extra pair of hands.
Link to pics while on test drive.

Terrific ! ! ! The car looks great.
Glad the first outing went well - like so many others I've enjoyed following the TF's story.
Not surprised you f-f-f-felt the f-f-f-ing cold - the temperature's been f-f-f-flirting with f-f-f-freezing all day.

Great stuff Pilkie. The car looks great and I bet you had great time going for a test drive - you should be very deservedly well chuffed with yourself :D .
You will need to remember to take off the oily boiler suit before you jump into that immaculate looking interior though

There was no alternative!
They only really differ in being round and not octagonal anyway!
I could not adapt the originals to suit the engine and box!
Even a basic resto of each dial to std spec would be £250 each!
The speedo would have to be recalibrated, the tacho is mechanical drive, and the only thing on the 3 in 1 cluster thats electric is the amps.
The new owner can have the pleasure of sourcing an original engine and restoring the original dials to match if they so wish!!

That makes perfect sense! The car looks smashing in the outside photos, good luck at the sale. :)

Well done Dave, you've built a really nice car there.

Re: MGTF1500resto.All but finished,1st drive tomorrow,if its dry

Interesting, but too hot roddy for me..

Re: MGTF1500resto.All but finished,1st drive tomorrow,if its dry

Hi Richard.
At this point in time I am still checking values out.
Its difficult as there are not many original TF1500's about to use as a guide!!
And those that are circa £10-14k need a retrim and repaint, mechanical and engine work!
Even a fully original low miles on the road one at £23k,could either be a driver as is or benefit from paint/trim,chrome.
With mine, all the hard work has been done, and if a new owner wanted to locate an original engine and fit the screen and a hood, and restore the dash, that is very easily done.
I have not changed anything to fit the donor engine!
I know some dont like the Triumph 1500 lump, but it looks very much the part, and it actually goes very well, and is dead easy to get cheap parts for,or replace if it goes bang!
All I have done is drill 2 holes for the gearbox mounts, and make a front mount bracket to fit the original mount point and rubber.
I have a gut feeling asking price will be around the £22k mark.
If you or your dad are interested, how about your MGC and £18k cash!!

Re: MGTF1500resto.All but finished,1st drive tomorrow,if its dry

Will make it too front heavy, and probably not handle well!
imho that is!!
