My 1968 S1 Rover P6B Three Thousand Five's Refreshtoration!

No! I don't consider the P6V8 a sports saloon!

Im quite prepared to wrist wrestle you over that one .There was nothing much with 4 doors around before the V8 Rover P6 turned up .

I would also like to get hold of a period drivers door clear perspex wind deflector!
We antipodeans call those wind deflectors , "Monsoon shields ". There's an outfit in Oz that used to make those . Chances are there still may be a few about .
Wind deflectors for us in upside down land , sit on the top of truck cabs and deflect wind over the container on the trailer and break the wind resistance .
My dad always had a drivers side monsoon as he used to smoke in the car . With the window down , the shield stopped the car filling up with smoke . Great for us kids in the back .

Re: Resistance is/was futile!!

I think door mirrors would look best but when I was a kid in the 70's I remember thinking that mirrors on the wing were the coolest thing ever and door mirrors were just plain wrong. That goes for any car not just P6's.

In saying that I also remember that I used to wear brown checked flares so maybe I didn't have a clue what was cool.

Re: Resistance is/was futile!!

Well ive just come out from inspecting his underside, and I am in total shock!
OMG!! FFS!! JEEZ!! :D
Its nearly as rust free as the day it was born! :D
A very small bit of underseal just starting to peel with powdery surface rust!
Just trying to find my camera with flash to take some pics!
Wont know the extent of whats under the wings till they come off,but from what I can see inside the boot on the inner wheel arches, and the front inners and hockey sticks etc, which all look perfect, I fully expect to find nothing of any concern!
Did a photoshoot and took 80'ish pics in total!
I removed the foam backed hardura front overmats, hoovered all the knackered foam off them and there is a V small amount of wear on the drivers side carpet where you put your left foot when you get in!
Apart from that the carpets and all furflex are near mint!
The boot hardura all in one piece, but needs a deep clean.

Re: Resistance is/was futile!!

Come on Dave , be brave and post the pics of the scabby bits ! I know it's a lovely old thing , and a great starting point , but you gotta paint the whole picture ! :D
Also Mr Sexy , AAHHH Nnnooooo . I know we've done the car and gender thing on here over and over , and however we all choose to gender our cars is a personal thing , fair enough . But Mr Sexy , just coungers up images of a mustacheioned leather wearing muscle Mary in a seedy gay bar ! Not the sophisticated , raffish old gent that it is . I can see you want to include the plate into the identity of it , surely Old sexy , or similar would work better . I just don't like to think of it sitting there cringing  Nice motor though , well worth putting a bit of effort into . :D

Re: Resistance is/was futile!!

HeHe!
NOW RECTIFIED!
I couldnt live with it!
As V8's are male cars it doesnt fit its persona!
And ive sold my gold medallion, white flares and blue velvet 70's jacket!
I have a plan!! :)
I did a photoshoot today of about 80 pics, just got to load them up before posting a link!
I did state in a previous reply!
""It looks great in the pics,and at 50ft away,but every panel has scabs,ally bubbling,wings rotten,bumpers past rechroming! :| ""
It needs 4 new wings and a total repaint to address its exterior looks, but the rest is pretty damned good as you know!
Had a good look underneath now and inside 1 sill and not one sign of ANY welding ever being done,,anywhere!!
Gotta find my camera,as phonecam no good when you need a flash!
Time for food,TV and feet up!

I was going to say, my first choice for a clean S1 would be clip-ones like Damian's. Then bullets...

Re: Resistance was futile!!!! My 1968 P6S1V8's body makeover!!!!

Went to the NEC today with Liam,"Classicmemories on the forum" in his 1976/77, V6 black on black Granada, and had a great day meeting up with fellow rover and other classic car owning mates.
Bought a period original "Desmo" clip on door mirror that I was lucky to find which is way better quality and looks far more in keeping than the current naff, cheap looking repro stuff on offer, and cheaper as well!
Would have to give it a 95 out of 100% for its condition!
Its either NOS or hardly ever been used!
No makers name, but the clamp style is near the same as the clamp on badge bars by Desmo, and they dont have Desmo stamped on them!

Re: Resistance was futile!!!! My 1968 P6S1V8's body makeover!!!!

Well ive fitted the clamp on door mirror, and it looks good and works well!
Wouldnt easily fit to the chrome section but easily fitted to the 1/4 light glass with a plastic pad!
Am sure I will get it to fit eventually! :)
Yes it will be affected when the 1/4 light is opened, but I doubt that will be often!
Now all I have to do is try to find another exactly the same for the n/s!!
So keep your eyes peeled for me guys!
The poll results were over 50% for door mirrors and I agree, but for now the clip ons will suffice!
I will see once its all done!

Re: Resistance was futile!!!! My 1968 P6S1V8's body makeover!!!!

Cheers!!
They look very wingard'ish on the heads!
Will have to see them in the flesh first though!

Re: Resistance was futile!!!! My 1968 P6S1V8's body makeover!!!!

Couldnt resist taking the slightly rusty nsr wing off to have a look behind!
As hoped and expected perfectly solid behind there!
Only a few small places where the original underseal is lifting,so easily fixed!
Now to refit it and take the osr off for a look!

Re: My new 1968 P6 S1 V8's body makeover!!!!

Could this be a potential candidate for a Triplex roof panel if one was to ever turn up?!

I think that'd just make this totally unique in the fact that it is pretty much perfect anyway but with your 'upgrades-program' more so!

Re: My new 1968 P6 S1 V8's body makeover!!!!

It would be a unique feature if one became available!
If I were to do something with the roof it would be a webasto!
Would have to think about it and weigh up the costs!
