My 1968 S1 Rover P6B Three Thousand Five's Refreshtoration!

Re: Resistance is/was futile!!

Of course, its too good to mess with!! :)
This is a candidate to keep fully original, albeit with a few period optional extras added! :)
Fit the NOS wings and repaint whole car in Arden, fit the NOS lights and NOS bumpers I have.
Am going to add some NOS extras I have accumilated,eg; front and rear lucas chrome fog lights, full set of mudflaps, and a passenger grab handle, rubber logo overmats, and a leather steering wheel cover!
Also a very good s/h full set of ET's front and back,tacho/clock pod,14" rostyle wheels with 185/80 Dunlop SP Sport tyres!!
When all the 18 panels are off,"leaving roof on",fully inspect the base unit and reunderseal, clean and repaint suspension items, remove engine and box, clean and repaint, clean and repaint engine bay and tidy up the underbonnet electrics.
Got to save up a few quid before I start, and once started I will allow 3 months to do it!

Re: Resistance is/was futile!!

Beautiful ! nice to see an original example. looks like it still has the original ignition system.

Re: Resistance is/was futile!!

I've only ever had 1 classic car with electronic ign,and i've just sold it!

Re: Resistance is/was futile!!

Nice looking car . The series 1 particularly look smart in Arden when the paint is bright . I bet you can't wait to get stuck into that engine bay .
Quite a score you have there
Well done
Gerald

Re: Resistance is/was futile!!

It sounds like this may very well end up being the best S1 V8 out there...!!!

I cannot wait to see progress reports and, of course, the finished product

I would like to think that I will do what it deserves at 46yrs old,but I will not be going down the totally concourse route!
Considering its current low miles and overall condition I do hope that after the work I intend to do,it will be well up there with the best of them!
Doing my 1954 MGTF1500's nut and bolt strip down resto gave me the enthusiasm to go that little extra with any further projects I undertake!

Re: Resistance is/was futile!!

Factory fresh is always better than full-on concours in my eyes... Letting the car 'look' how it should look is an integral part of the appeal of classic cars to me! When they are over-done the charm is all lost...

You've stumbled across a real gem here and you should be very (VERY) pleased with yourself indeed...!!!

Re: Resistance is/was futile!!

Your opinions sought on what would be best!
Re; Wing/door mirrors?
Should I keep the wing mirrors?
Not re-fit them to the new wings?
Should I go mirrorless?
Should I just go with door mirrors?
Or have wing and door mirrors?

Re: Resistance is/was futile!!

i've never been a fan of the wing mirror , although they give a better rear view.
Reminds me of "Ben Hur" and the Roman chariot race with those protruding blades on the wheels .
But you guys are half Roman up there anyway , so you may think they look very bling . Its in ya DNA
Door mirrors always look as if they're meant to be there and not an after thought like the wing ones .

Door mirrors only for me Pilkie. Don't drill those NOS wings!!!!
It's NO mirrors at all for me. Don't drill any panels. Keeps it looking clean.
I have none on mine. You get used to swivelling your head.

That is one lovely P6. Will be one of the best when you are finished with it.

Re: Resistance is/was futile!!

It looks great in the pics, and at 50ft away, but every panel has scabs, ally bubbling, wings rotten, bumpers past rechroming! :|
But apart from those minor easily sorted problems the rest is EFFFin GREAT!

Re: Resistance is/was futile!!

Door. You need them and could opt for the 'bullet' style and still be period. The wing ones interfere with the lines of the car in my view.

Re: Resistance is/was futile!!

Not a fan of bullets on a saloon car!
Sports convertibles and coupes maybe!

What about a sports saloon , where I think the P6 fits very comfortably . In fact I think that "sport saloon" was coined when the car journalists had to describe this new type of motoring after Rover slam dunked a V8 into a small car ..
Fit those bullets Pilkie , your car will go faster ! You can always paint them arden

Re: Resistance is/was futile!!

No! I dont consider the P6V8 a sports saloon!
I wouldnt fit them on the bonnet like some have done, that just looks silly, and from what I have seen, experienced they are not the best for good view adjustment anyway!
Far more in keeping with boy racer looks on a Cortina or Escort GT,GT6,Herald,Vitesse etc!
I have a boxed set of the Wingard Zanetti dual lens that would look good on the doors!
Exactly the same shape and size as std Rover wingards!
However when the time comes,I will go with no mirrors at all and fit a clip on door mirror, and see how it performs and looks!
I would also like to get hold of a period drivers door clear perspex wind deflector!
