The garage had the car for a week and the car covered no more than 20 miles they said they tested it for 25 mins that morning and the boss drove the car home twice.
I drove it two miles and the brakes were binding......what the hell did they do i am not going to pay them and have told them my dissatisfaction.
Back to square one after paying to change the front calipers.......arghhhhhhhhhhh
i dont have time to play around with the car dont have a garage and dont know what to do now.

Pull back the footwell carpets etc. Measure from the floor vertically to the bottom of the brake pedal. The distance should be 6.5" according to the book IIRC, which is fine for an auto, but I set manuals to 6&7/8" and tend to do the autos the same. If it needs to be adjusted, (because in your case the pedal is too high) then if you look at the top of the pedal you'll see a locknut holding a threaded adjuster on the pushrod. Back off the locknut and screw the adjuster anti-clockwise to lower the pedal.

OK so whats this got to do with the master cylinder piston clearance and how can this affect the brakes ?

Because if the pedal is too high it can hold the brakes on just enough for them to build up pressure. Once the pedal height is set correctly then you can eliminate that as the problem and move on to something else.

ok i see this would make sense as the brakes do not start binding straight away only after a little use.....going to check it today thankyou so much guys.. will let you know..

just measure it and from the floor to the owest part of the foot plate its seven and a quarter ins how does it adjust guys

Ok adjustment very simple thanks again, did a seven mile round trip and still binding but there is some improvement i think its difficult to ascertain the difference as it get progressively worse in heavy traffic. i felt it release a little quicker I think not too sure. I am wondering if it is the spring in the servo being a little weak ?
over to the experts thanks you again guys for helping.

Some success then! If you release the vacuum pipe on the white mini servo on the top does it release straight away?

The next thing I'd do is just check that it's all four wheels that are binding. If that's the case then I'd selectively release the pressure on two occasions once it starts binding, once after the servo, and once between the servo and the master cylinder, to locate the problem, if not then I'd do the same thing but only on the ones you've found to be binding.

Not yet sometimes it realeses so quickly i will not have time but i can do this i will try these and let you guys know.

regards

Yes it does, I did it when I was taking a look, I mentioned this on an earlyer post after yours Rich when you bought up the vacuum on the servo....

Think you should get this bit from wins then? Was about25 quid but literally 10 minutes to fit!

Rich.
