P6s in Greece

That Taunus is the equivalent of our Mk3 Cortina and would have had a 1.3, 1.6 or 2.0 Pinto engine or maybe a 2.3 V6

Don't think the UK cars had the 2.3, as far as I remember only the Mk5 had the V6. Can't speak for the German Taunus. Front is different too. I had a Mk3 GT and that had a 2.0L pinto in it, I would say it's a good bet that has one too.

Think I've said it before, but back in the day a friend had a red MkV 2.3, red vinyl roof & red interior. It was very nice & he was gutted when some toerag half-inched it.

I know we're drifting off Greek Rovers, but there were some 2.8 Cortinas built as Police demo's, I never drove one but was told they were useless, you couldn't keep the back end under control. The estates were meant to replace Granadas but the back seat had to be removed to move the equipment forward in an attempt to improve stability, so they might as well have been Transits!

Just to take a break from the Fords, two more P6s that were discovered in Athens recently. A series 1 2000 and a 2200 TC. Sadly, both seem to be abandoned. :(

If they're abandoned, you should liberate them Demetris. :)

If only there were unrusty abandoned P6s lying around in the UK!

If only there was a reasonable road tax and insurance policy for classics in Greece!

(To give you a rough idea i paid 730 euros for road tax and about 800 euros for basic coverage insurance for the Austin and the Rover for 2011. And this is for modest cars. A V8 would cost 1000 euros for road tax and 500 euros for insurance per year).

Not to mention the difficulty in finding parts and the costs involved shipping them from UK.

Also, the cars may be abandoned but usually their owners are not prepared to give them for free!

Whereabouts is the red one Demetris?
I may go and take a peek...
Saw this near my place recently!
Was last taxed in '99 though by the looks of it...

Definitely. I was surprised by the number of classics on the road in crete - if they get scrapped and remain unused for that reason that's a real shame.

Hi Jim, the red 2200 is in Pendeli. I asked for more details, i will let you know if there is anything else.

Rich, don't forget that cars were not in our culture and tradition at all! For most of us over here old cars are just that, old cars, not classics!
So, this is half the explanation of the situation in Greece regarding Classic cars.
The other half explanation has to be the extremely short sighted, tax greedy policies of our politicians in the last decades.

But we'd better not start with the last one, i can't wait to get rid of them!
