shockie comparisons

maybe Koni's or Bilsteins might be the go after all?

Hi Geoff,

Unfortunately, Koni's aren't really an option anymore as the model for the P6 has been discontinued. The local importer/distributor had none in stock when I checked within the last 12 months and Koni were not going to ship any of the remaining stock (which is in Holland) until such time as orders for 50 or more complete sets had been received. Only then will they ship the required quantity to Australia.

I also checked with the U.K importer/distributor at the time, looking for an alternative means of obtaining some and was told the same. Orders for not less than 50 sets also needed to be placed with them, and none would be shipped from Holland to the U.K until such time.

Fortunately, Koni's can be completely rebuilt when the need arises, the local distrubutors have all the parts and equipment to do so. That is what I shall have done with mine when the time comes.

I have trawled my links but cant find the Bilstein shocks link.
In any case I think the GAZ are a better option ( adjustable and prob on a par for quality), just darn expensive for freight.

OKay, I have news.

Does anyone have any dead Koni or Bilstein shocks that I could buy off them?

secondly, Brenten and Al, I have spoken to a place in Sydney that can build shock absorbers (or dampners if you're in the UK) from scratch for us to our liking - ie touring, sporting etc, but they will be roughly $480+ for the fronts alone and I will have to send them a sample of a front and rear shock (any brand).

I e-mailed a place in the UK (motorsportworld.co.uk) asking if they have Koni's in stock as their website shows them available but I've had no reply.

I have one more place to try to see if someone has something on the shelf in Aus and that's it.

yeah...would love to get them...adjustable too..but cant see where.
Unfortunately no shipping to Aus...have asked him, so maybe he will.
Fingers crossed

If he says no, you can have them shipped to me in California and I will help out - let me know

Hi folks,

Is there a reason Koni Classics haven't made it onto the list? I've never bothered with anything but Koni when upgrading/replacing shockies.

Q

EDIT: Sorry I had not seen the posts above regarding unavailability; I guess I should hand on to the classics that are sitting under the P6 now.

Brenten,

My brother lives in Nebraska and is coming home in June/July, if you don't have any luck with the shipping it wouldn't be an issue to ship them to him and whack them in the container. My sister also lives in San Francisco and could possibly ship them back if required. I've always found USPS to be the most economical for shipping, especially their lower cost options.

Hi Brenten,

There are two small holes either side of the top locating eye. With a suitable probe you push down through the holes onto the rubber bung allowing it to be removed. Close them right up and you will feel them lock, now they can be adjusted by revolving one section wrt the other. There is a little over 2.5 full turns from the minimum through to the maximum setting. Replace the bung and they're ready to fit.

Ok...I better ask...are these shockies suitable for the 3500?
It says the TC in the ad.
He will ship them, but does not know the price, and says they could be expensive.
If they suit the 3500, and shipping can be arranged either through UPS, or the generous offers of socal or madpom, then I will indeed purchase...and then be on the lookout for a rear set as well.
Would i be correct in saying they would be preferable to the GAZ?...and adjustable to boot.

They are, there is no difference. Koni only made one type for the P6 and it covered all models.

They Don't get much better.

All sorted.
$203 delivered.
Happy with that...just keep fingers crossed all is OK with transit.
Thanks heaps Geoff for alerting me to these, and also for your generous offers of assistance gents.
Now just gotta find a rear set.
Quick question...would a set of rear GAZ shocks be complimentary/suitable?
Brenten

Hey Brenten

no worries, mine are in transit somewhere, I might email my vendor and get the tracking number, but I'm in no rush.

I was going to take those shocks (when they get here) and some second hand ones I bought cheap for my Mazda wagon, to my local Koni specialist and also take along an old stock Rover rear shock and get him to see if there is something suitable on the shelf that will suit a p6.

They adapted something to suit a Mazda R100 that a friend of mine restored/modified so I'm sure they will have something in a convential acting shock to suit.
