My mean green hornet

Roughly buffed the temporary bootlid paintwork to an acceptable standard, at least it's protected from the elements while the car is outside!
It used up the last of my cameron green so wasn't really a waste of time.

I have put the order in for the first anti roll bar, and my 2.5" lowering springs will be made very soon too :D

Jet Hot seems to have a good reputation for ceramic coating, their chrome look one looks incredible. I think they're Australian actually..
I'm guessing most of the coatings are essentially the same product but some companies prep/apply them badly?

Hi Jim,

The approach that you are taking certainly changes the way the Rover looks. With the location of your rear number plate, I am pretty sure that would be illegal here in N.S.W, indeed in any state or territory I expect. It needs to be mounted a certain distance above the ground and illuminated when the car is used at night.

Ron.

Thanks Ron, that's interesting..The copper coloured custom Australian p6 has it mounted in the same location as mine though?

Mine has passed MOTs in the UK as is, it has numberplate bolt LED lights which beams fan out across the numberplate
Jim

Hi Jim,

The copper coloured P6 in the photo is registered in Victoria, and here in Australia the rules will differ depending upon the state or territory in which the car is registered. What is legal in one state can be illegal in another.

I didn't realise that you had lights mounted on the bumper underside as I can't see them in the photos.

Ron.

^ I love that copper coloured P6 ^ , and also that custom metallic green one that just sold on ebay! The Aussies certainly know how to create a beautiful custom/hot rod P6! 8)

P.s Jim, the car's coming on great. Have you got a link to the lights you used to illuminate your number plate? I'm still considering doing the same thing to mine, I really like the clean look of the boot like that. Are you keeping the boot mount spare set up, or doing away with it to keep the boot lid completely 'clean'?
Will

Thanks Will
At the moment I'm planning on keeping the boot mount spare badge. It will be the only badging left on the car, and one of the better ones in my eyes.
Just search ebay for the led numberplate bolt lights as I can't find them in my history right now.
They're generally used on custom bikes, they come in black or chrome...
I'd say they are on the edge of legal on an oblong plate as each light fans out only a few inches each side and then deteriorates, it is all illuminated but is less bright in the centre of the plate. They would work best on a square plate, ie on a bike
Another option would be to upturn the standard lamp and mount below the bumper.
Jim

Have you got your toyo's fitted yet, I'm sure that I am not alone in wanting to hear what they sound like, & after seeing them fitted to that awesome, wicked sounding series one on ebay, I definitely want a set for my 3500S. So come on, stop polishing & get fitting

Sorry I missed your post dvdocon.
They are a fair way off being fitted ( I know I know  )
I have to finish porting the sd1 heads, rebuild carbs and install new cam kit before they can be tested as such..

Off the subject, i have obtained a tatty corvette c3 steering wheel for £20 :D
I'm just ordering a billet spacer adaptor which will need a minor bit of redrilling to fit the 3 bolt Rover pattern. That way I can retain the rover splined hub.
The wheel is 14" and I'm going to recover in a beige/light tan and polish the stainless spokes.

Here it is mocked up

And what it should look similar to when I've finished

Jim

I reckon the wheel suits the car. Rim looks nice and chunky. Although the standard P6 wheels look good, I do sometimes think a chunkier one would make for more comfortable driving?

The car is PAS Dave
It is period correct being from a 70s corvette, I think it's going to make quite a bit of difference to the driving experience- especially at speed.
I too like the standard wheels, but the way this car is heading this makes much more sense.

After doing a quick test polish on one of the spokes she looks like this ( black and white so the colours don't draw the attention too much!)

Jim

That is a good looking wheel Jim. Think I prefer the unpolished spokes though. Might change my mind when I see all 3 polished mind :)

Dave

No worries Mr. Corazon, look forward to hearing it when its done! Like the steering wheel, looks far better with the Rover centre cap than the Chevy one.

Billet spacer adaptor arrived today from the States. It fits the corvette wheel perfectly, only needing a minor re-drill to fit onto the Rover hub.
An added bonus is the driving reach will be improved for me personally, being 1" thick.
The Rover hub will then be polished to match, blinding everyone in sight

Jim

Spacer does look good Jim. Whatever you did to spruce up the leather has made quite a difference.

What billet is that, Jim?
Standard 'Vette or splined for the Rover?

It's a 6 hole spacer suited to the corvette wheel and many others, grant wheels etc. Delivered from the states for around £25.
It needs to be redrilled for the Rover 3 bolt pattern (so I can retain the Rover splined hub), just waiting on getting a new belt for my drill press and that should be sorted!
Here it is mocked up from the front

The wheel will be re-upholstered in Ultraleather, as will the whole car at some stage :D

Today I've made a start on cutting the centre piece for my custom grill, which will be tig welded once I'm happy and re-finished black and polished
It's a hard piece to cut having many angles to think about.
I did want to have two pieces that fill the gap into a point but the gap is very small at the bottom so I ended up making one piece to bridge the space to start with. This is how it looks mocked up
