Thought I better put a thread up on this massive event, planning of which is well, well advanced.

Entry forms available on the RSR Website http://www.thersr.co.uk/events/diamond-jubilee-national-rally-entry-form

Details and a booking form has also gone out in 'Driving Force'.

My own little corner of this event is co-ordinating the early cars.

As it's fifty years this year only The Rover P6 Club are awarding one of the big trophies to the best Dunlop brakes/sharkstooth grilled (pre mid-1966) car. There will be an area for the early cars, and I am writing to the owners of all the cars I can think of in an effort to make sure they, and their cars, are there.

If you're the owner, or know the owner of a of a pre-1966 car please get in touch, I'll write to the non-internet friendly owners. It would be great to see you at Alcester. It's going to be an unforgettable day.

Thanks
Nick

Hi Nick. Do you know if it's essential to buy a ticket for the house, on top of the rally entry fee? I've got no problem with the rally fee, but as I've got no intention of going round the house  can't I skip that bit? Website booking form doesn't seem to allow it?

Cheers mate :)

The entry to the house - and the gardens, which are apparently very special for those that like that sort of thing - is free.

The fee for the NT for non members of the NT is a 50% discount entry to the grounds and is part of the price of having the event there. It's only shown seperately because members of the NT can avoid it!

The venue is absolutely something special, with the cars lined up between twin avenues of trees looking directly at the front of the house. The NT are providing on rally catering as well as the normal NT cafe - a big selling point for the wives and girlfreinds! Plus there will be seperate tented displays and enough cover to get at least some of us out of the rain, should there be any. There, that's my gaurantee of a superb day booked!

The house is actually fascinating - with one genuine Elzabethan wing faced by a Victorian copy of it plus the fabulous faux French Chateau frontage and stable blocks.

And the whole lot is only a couple of miles off the M42 right on the main road and easy acees in from the M5 for us South Westerners.

Don't forget to book for the Saturday as well. The entertainment at Gaydon looks really good fun. The driving test event is theoretically untimed - but some of us are threatening to try and turn it into a full autotest type event and see how much rubber we can leave on GAydon's car parks! That should give the Sports Register competitive P2's a fright! I do hop the Irish rally lads will be coming - I can't wait to see a P6 doing handbrake turns!

Gents

As part of this huge event we are, as I'm sure you're aware, celebrating 50 years since the launch of the Rover 2000.

I am organising a specific area for the early cars (Dunlop braked) at Coughton Court on the Sunday, and the RP6C Wins Cup will be presented to be the best early car this year.

I've had it confirmed today that both FLK's are coming, as well as number 100. I know Alan Francis is bringing his Copperleaf car, so that's at least the four oldest production cars in one place.

If you, or anyone you know, has an early car we'd love to see you there.

If you know someone who's not a Club member or an ardent web-user who has one of these cars please let me know and I will write to them with an invite.

Many thanks
Nick

That's great news Nick, the car is coming along nicely though behind schedule as a result of the awful March weather.....I'm sure I'm not alone in that respect.

I hope we get blessed with the weather just as we did at Ragley Hall for the 100 years rally, an event that in hindsight takes on a new significance after the collapse and extinction of our beloved marque shortly afterwards.

Fortunately the past cannot be destroyed and with the support of our suppliers and enthusiasm of members seems safer now than it ever was. Was it really nearly 40 years ago I first climbed into a P6 and got hooked .......... the rest as they say is history. Cant wait for the day to dawn. :D :D :D

Alan

Thanks Alan.

We've been out to the second site meeting today and a lot of the hard work appears now done. This is going to be spectacular show. 150 cars now booked in, so the likelyhood of at least equalling the turnout at Ragley in 2004 is high.

Huge amount of work going into this one.

Folks
I've just written to ten or so known owners (or possibly ex-owners) of early Rover 2000's in an effort to get a good turnout of 'Sharkstooth' grilled cars to this event. Paul Smith thinks I'll be lucky to make twenty Sharkstooth cars there, I'd like to prove him wrong!

If you know of anyone with a pre-1967 car who could be prompted please let me know and I'll do the rest. Thanks.

Willow Green vehicles in particular extremely welcome, it'd be good to have all five launch colours.

Thanks
Nick

Nick, have you got HVO 804D on your radar? This was the White car I bought from you and sold to a guy in Sittingbourne. He sold it to a chap in Hastings area and talking to Richard Bryant at Beaulieu he knows the man so should be able to put you in touch.
It was good to see Richard up and about after his awful health problems last year and my car (managed to get the exhaust box from Pierre Janusz )is now up and running. Did 20 miles on Sunday, top end rattle still present but think I'll adopt the 'turn up the radio' attitude to it.

Regards

No Alan, I've not seen the car in a long time. I had it on my list of likely suspects, but no recent address for an owner.

Good to hear the Copperleaf is up and running, excellent stuff.

Hi Nick, hope all's well... might be having a mid-life crisis moment here but I can't make head nor tail of the entry form, does the £9.50 fee cover entry across all three days, and am I right in thinking it's at Alcester on the Friday and Saturday and Coughton on the Sunday? Or have I gt it completely wrong as usual...?!!! Oh, and where does Gaydon come into it...?!!!

I was booked to be on a railtour to Penzance with the Western on Saturday 29th but it's put a leg out of bed apparently so I'm now free that weekend - would love to waft over in the P5B...

Nidge

The BBQ is at Alcester Rugby Club on the Friday night. Also running on Saturday night.
Road runs on Saturday, starting at Kings Court including including driving tests at Gaydon, RSR evening meal @ Kings Court, P6 Club have a meal nearby.
Static show Sunday at Coughton Court.

Give me a bell if you get stuck Nidge.

are you allowed to turn up on the day even in something modern? at the moment I have no car, but I'm going to try to change that by the end of the month

Just booked my ticket. Only Sunday I'm afraid and a little late I know but had to adjust the diary.
3 meetings this year and more miles than Robbie Rover has done in the last ten years
see you all there hope for as much sunshine as in the boarders

Turning up on the day is OK provided you can pay cash.

The entry charges are:

per Car £8
per Person Free if NT member
£5 if not NT member

Out of the NT charge the NT are providing loos and a full NT standard Tea and Cakes tent plus a snack bar, all on the rally field in front of the house. Plus you have free access to the house and gardens, both of which are apparently very impressive (not my cup of tea).

I shall be on the entrance gate, so woe betide those not in possession of change!

Looks like being an absolutely huge show.

There seems to be a bit of a battle royal developing between the various 3500S NADAs. Besides last years Petworth champion there are going to be two newly finished restorations - and I really wouldn't like to predict which of the three will win! (the new Federal and NADA trophy that is).

Overall we look to be going to exceed 300 cars very comfortably. Oldest will be a 1904 and youngest a '54 plate 75! All Rovers.

And don't forget the Saturday event at Gaydon. I'm personally looking forward to this as my main bit of fun and relaxation. The RSR have set up an untimed "driving test" that looks suspiciously like an autotest, so a few of us in madder P6's are going to treat it as such and try for fastest time!

Chris

I am booked in for Saturday and Sunday and plan to drive down on the Friday. Just wondered who else on the Forum might be there?

We are driving down Saturday morning, camping at the rugby club Saturday night. So we will see you all at some point. Anyone thinking of booking, it's a must, don't miss out, you have been warned :D

we're coming back off holiday on the saturday so i'll be there on the sunday. Not sure if Pheebs or Rozelle will be coming though. Depends how tired out Pheebs is.
